Gainsborough Trinity have signed 26-year-old midfielder Adam Chapman following a spell training with the club following his release by League Two side Mansfield Town.

Chapman left Mansfield towards the end of September after mutually agreeing to part ways with the club.

Chapman, who was in his second spell with the Stags, made seven first-team appearances this season, but was suffering a groin injury.

He started his career with Sheffield United and, although he failed to make the breakthrough at Bramall Lane, he did make twenty appearances on loan with Oxford United in the 2008/09 season when they were members of the Conference (National League) Premier.

He left the Blades at the end of that season and signed a permanent deal with Oxford for a fee of £15,000 with a 50% sell-on clause.

He was named man of the match in Oxford's Conference Promotion Final victory at Wembley in May 2010.

It was whilst at Oxford that Chapman had his first spell with Mansfield, joining on loan in March 2013 and making eleven appearances and scored 4 goals back in the Conference.

After helping the Stags to return to the Football League, he moved to Newport County, who had come up with Mansfield via the play-offs, in the summer of 2013.

He played seventy-five times for the Exiles, scoring 5 times, before returning to Mansfield, this time on a more permanent basis, in May 2015.
