rumours on new signings

Postby BH_Stag » Tue May 31, 2022 12:47 pm

Pompey Live saying we’re in for Michael Jacobs, winger. Also mentioned by a BBC and Portsmouth commentator.

Clough had him at Derby, and Sharpe at Wigan so would tick boxes. Saying failing to go up could cost us though

Yes it was mentioned on here earlier. It’s from a credible source so no reason to disbelieve it.

If true, a good solid keeper, Rotherham born.

Scott Flanders is 35 and has played 518 league games. He played well for Hartlepool (252 league apps) and Cheltenham (133 league apps). He was relegated from the National League with York City. He would probably only be considered as a cheap back up keeper.

Cheltenham released him because they couldn't afford him apparently. They wanted him to stay on as coach too. I don't think he'll be "cheap".

Flinders was told in his end-of-season meeting that Cheltenham wanted to keep him beyond this summer, but finances dictated that he had to move on, with Owen Evans made available for transfer and young prospect Harris offered a new deal to continue his development.

Perhaps Scott Flinders would be brought in as a player and a coach bearing in mind Jim McDonagh will be 70 in October.

Possibly seen as a seasoned veteran to help bring Owen Mason on.

Yes, it's a possibility. Given what he said in that article I can't see him coming here as a No 2. He's a good keeper.

Mansfield Town are keen on Burton Albion defender John Brayford, according to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon.

Brayford, 34, sees his deal with the Brewers expire at the end of the month and is currently due to become a free agent.

His current side have offered him a new contract but he is yet to sign it.

Obviously very unsurprising that we are in for Brayford. By all accounts he’d be a very solid signing. I just worry that we don’t have much athleticism across the back line.

If we signed Flinders and Brayford I’d make that 10 players that will be 30+ by the seasons start.
Flinders, JJ, Perch, Quinn, Macca, Brayford, Hawkins, Bowery, Akins & Clarke.

Nice injection of pace into our back line.

Imagine us playing something like this -

Flinders - 35 (although doesn’t mean much as a GK)
Branford - 34, Perch - 36, O’Toole - 33, Macca - 32

Brayford has great experience and old legs, not what we need right now.

Are his old legs faster than Faz's or Oli's?

from reading the Burton board it would appear they are expecting JFH to be in the front running for the Barnsley job, not sure if that’s good or bad news ref Brayford coming tbh

Looks like the rumour originated from this York fan on Twitter, no idea if there’s anything in it.

From a quick google he’s a CM, don’t know anything else about him though.

Why bother paying for a scout when you can just get burtons rejects

Experience is good but one thing we need in the summer is PACE, play at times was almost glacial.

Our defence is nearly old enough to qualify for that masters football

Think some people would do well to remember Burton are a league above us and have been for quite some time. It's not like we're signing players from dog and duck rovers.

Managers like to sign players they know, work well with, work in their system. I don't get why there's a negative connotation attached to Burton players signing.
