Why would anyone announce they are going to hospital for emergency treatment on social media if it were not attention seeking it is not normal?

I think you are being a bit harsh ows. Carolyn likes to put things on social media. Personally I would have kept it to family and close friends ( as I suspect you would have too ). That doesn't mean it's wrong what she's done.
