I agree. It wasn't to be. There will be other players on NC's list. We move on.

We need to remember we are a small club in comparison with Wigan etc , players who get offers from teams above in the pyramid will not sign for a bottom half league 2 side regardless who the manager is .

Is nobody else concerned that we are going for two on loan keepers this season?

I just hope that the first choice keeper will be coming on a loan deal with no option of a recall.

Fair enough, that's their choice. I think we've dodged a bullet. Would much rather have someone who wants to play for us than someone looking for a last big payday.

I doubt many Clubs above league 2 where chasing him he’s struggled since injury which question marks appear . We can only fish in ponds and attract players that our current position suggest and that’s Lower division 4 .

I think you are dumbing down what most of us see as a good signing. Time will tell.

He’s said himself he had offers in L1.

We’re not seen as a lower ‘Division 4 team’.

We're seen as a lower 'division 4 team that pays well'

Not too concerned. Depends where he comes from. If he's 2nd choice higher up and their first choice gets injured or out of form then we may be looking for GK in January.

By who? We’re an attractive proposition for any player. Top 3 in the league, top 6 minimum.

We haven't been top 3 league 2 side for 20 years. We were top 4 a few years ago and just outside the play off the year before. But bar that we are mid table also rans who flirted with relegation and got relegated twice and a play off final loss in 20 years.

We are attractive because we pay well. Clough is a bonus but mainly pay.

I’m not talking about league position. I’m talking about our ability to attract players, which is what the conversation was about.

We’ve been a top league 2 side since JR said we were going to smash the league.

Top 3 budget. Which is money. That's what makes us top 3.

Missing out on Naylor = bullet dodged

I'd never want us sign anyone who's heart wasn't in playing for us and never gave 100%. We've had too many of those in the past

Not defending what happened with Naylor and Speight, but if we are being honest he is above L2 standard and the only reason we got a sniff of him signing was a combination of being his hometown club and Clough being our manager. He was always going to go to L1 if the opportunity arose, but the way Speight continued to negotiate after terms were agreed with us is the underhanded part of it all.

He did have the opportunity to stay in league 1 but turned down a new contract, coming to us must of been money based as well as closer to his family.
I would of still been happier with the Johnson signing and hopefully Quinn.

Does Speight represent any of our squad?
I did think he has Sinclair and Law but surely he wouldn't mess on his own doorstep

I’m not talking about league position. I’m talking about our ability to attract players, which is what the conversation was about.

Please Mansfield since 2004 have spent 12 years in league 2 and 5 in non-league, so no Mansfield Town will struggle to attract quality players from the leagues above.
What we can do is invite players who are hungry for a challenge and believe their is a future at the club, Yes we fish in a low budget market and our academy is a vital source of talent
Can the club move forward , only time will tell but their is a buzz of expectation a coming together of owners a Good C-E-O and a manager we know we can trust.

It would have been money that attracted Naylor to MTFC in the first place, we've been outbid, no probs with that, move on.
