Andy White: Stags Stories

Postby mtfcmatters » Fri Jun 11, 2021 7:50 am

Former Mansfield Town striker Andy White believes former boss Bill Dearden left the club for rivals Notts County, knowing the time was right for Stuart Watkiss to make the step up to the managerial hot seat and take the club forward.

In the clip taken from this weeks ‘Stags Stories’ episode, the former front man also reveals more about the awkward arrival of Keith Curle.

I always enjoyed watching Andy White as a player; he was a key part of that promotion side and people often don't list him with the likes of Bobby, Liam, Corden, etc. when they remember that promotion winning side. For me, he's very worthy of being called out as a key factor in the promotion, bagging some important goals.

Did he really score 70 goals for the Stags in 68 appearances (as Wiki suggests)? If so, that's very impressive indeed and probably needs more recognition than it gets!

Andy White White White scored 11 in 37 starts and 39 sub appearances in all competitions. 10 in 68 league appearances. The 70 is obviously a typo.
He was a big lad at 6 foot 4 and probably should have scored more but never had a consistent run in the side. He made his debut aged 19 and went out on loan several times before signing for Crewe.
He didn’t fulfil his potential for whatever reason. Maybe he covers that in this interview.

Andy was one of those players that stood on the floor was 6 foot 4 inches but when he jumped looked 5 foot 4 inches

Yeah, but his goal for the Stags at Barnsley in League One was a bit special.
Those accustomed to privilege may feel that equality is oppression.
