Expectation for next season

Postby bobbystagsfan » Sat May 08, 2021 8:21 pm

So I've already seen some fans saying we're going to smash the league next season, and polls if we'll finish first or second. Love the ambition, but I feel like some might be getting their hopes up too high too soon.

I think we'll be top 10 next season and want to be in or around the play offs for me. Clough won't be here for a mid table finish, he will want better but I'm not expecting automatic promotion next year.

What are your expectations for next season?

Like Clough has said if he can get the right players there is no reason at all why we can’t be challenging.

Top 3.

Comfortable top half finish definitely..... Can see us being around the play off pack for most of the season and only pushing for top 3 if everything happens to click and we have some good luck.

We have a great midfield and some decent youth players... However even if he gets his top 8 targets we still might have some of the same issues, you just never know and our expectation year in year out for top 3 is becoming tiring. Wait and see who we can bring in and how we start the season.

I’m very confident going into next season, I think our midfield is quality and our manager is unreal. Team needs a bit of tweaking but we will be alright!

I expect us to get to 50 points, anything better than that is a bonus.

I expect minimum top half finish.

If we don’t make the playoffs I’ll be mildly disappointed

If things go well I wouldn’t be surprised if we are too 3

Top 10 minimum (we’re already at that level).

I’m expecting top 7, anything better a bonus.

Undoubtedly going to be a stronger league next year and I’d expect us to be stronger within it given our setup and leadership. Top 7 should be the aim

Hard to say at this stage.

Depends on how much of the crap he gets rid of and how much he can bring in what he wants.

All you’ve got to do is look at akins in the transfer window, that comes in and we actually then have a decent forward we could have had a tilt at the playoffs, we don’t and we’re lumbered with reid and bowery - who aren’t good enough / simple.

what i most like about clough is his morales abs standards - something sorely missing in evans who he’s mainly compared against. He will expect the same from his players and it’s clear to see.

I think we’ve already got one of the best midfielders in the league to start, build on that and we’re good.

A tilt at the playoffs would suffice

We will do just fine. The impatient ones amongst us need to keep a lid on it if things aren't instantly going too well next season. Sick of the up, down attitude after every win or defeat. Nigel is the man to take us forward. Just give him time.

Top 10 would be nice. As always the expectation is improvement. That's all just an improvement

Form since he took over is certainly top half. Someone said earlier it's 67 points, I think, which is 10th this season so yeah top 10.

Improve position on this year and play more lads from the academy so everyone is convinced the future is bright . After so many seasons of genuinely believing that next season is the big one I have decided to adapt the Trotter philosophy of this time next year we’ll be champions..

:coys: I expect us to make what many on here will call uninspiring signings.

I expect when they start slowly and we are mid table after 7/8 games for this place to start it’s seasonal mid September meltdown.

I expect Clough to be honest and respectful of the moan monkeys views, ignore them, and then quietly make the small tweaks needed and us to start to climb up the table.

I expect by the transfer window we will be in and around the play offs.

I expect after the window the usual suspects on here to start multiple threads about how poor our signings have been.

I expect by this time next year there will be at least two divisions between us and the cheats from the dark side.

I expect that if that doesn’t happen I will still have faith in Clough to get the job done and build us a club for the long term, with solid foundations.

We sacked a manager for finishing 4th, so really unless JR has learned a valuable lesson, then top 3 or it's off with yet another managers head.

As for my own view, then I think top 7 is realistic, mid table would be disappointing but acceptable, bottom 6 then a quick call to the Potteries to see what Dave is up to ;)

Top7 and privately I suspect NC is looking at promotion.

Manage expectations , under promise and over deliver is the order of the day.

If you look at the gap even now and factor in mistakes, late late goals and leads thrown away we aren’t far off. I know these things happen anyway but I don’t think I can remember a season with so many self inflicted calamities.

What I am convinced of is that if NC is here for any period we will get promoted.

Keep Lapslie & Clough all season would be a great season.

If Clough gets the recruitment right, then I can’t see why we can’t finish in the top 7.

It's where you finish that counts. We finished 21st under Dempster/Coughlan, then 16th under Coughlan/Clough. Its an improvement

Same as 21st-12th-8th-4th that was achieved over 4 managers, it's improving year on year despite chopping and changing managers. The difference being 3 of those 4 were experienced managers with promotion(s) on their cv. We have currently gone 21st-16th over 3 managers but only 1 has had promotions on their cv.

We've had 7 managers over the last 6 seasons. That has to stop. How can any manager meet our expectations of he's barely here for a season. Only one of those managers "jumped" 5 were "pushed".

Expecting instant success has got us nowhere.

Hopefully just to enjoy it again.

Since MK Dons away, all we've had is disappointment and frustration.

The JD and GC era were unmistakably the biggest letdowns in in recent times and we were served up so horrible displays.

Clough, do your stuff.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

Given that nigel has stated he has 8 targets already ,we will improve on this season ,if he gets who he wants im fairly hopeful of a good season irrespective of who he gets rid of ,what would be good ,play offs or obviously autos ,i would settle for the play offs
