Search on for a new striker

Postby Chadman » Tue Feb 12, 2019 2:17 pm

Stags would love to find a free agent as cover for Rose (and Graham) and are actively searching for one, but Flitcroft admits it's a long shot at this time of the year . . .

Paul Taylor

Has anyone seen a lot of Tyrese Sinclair? Seems to score all the time for the U18's and has scored today for the reserves. I know he's only 18 but is he physically developed like Graham?

Tyrese is a very slim lad.

Hopefully slim enough for the defenders not to notice him.

He had a storming game at Bournemouth in the FA Youth Cup. He's a small player with tremendous technique, and a superb free kick on him. I think he's got a big future.

Can teams not cross other club’s palm with silver as a sweetner to release players to enable then to become a free agent?

As DF says, finding a player who is anywhere near fit wil be difficult.

Apparently, if they come in half fit the step up in training is likely to result in nigling injuries.

We had two strikers out injured for the rest of the season before the injury to DR. We needed to sign a striker rather than another midfielder.

Not only are we down on the number of strikers available but we don't have a striker who is good enough in the air. I accept that isnt a key part on the way we play, but I think it is an outlet every team should have.

I think this is a concern for us now. Finding an out of contract striker good enough will be difficult.

I remember AM bringing in an out of contract striker when he was manager ( his name escapes me ). He had scored goals in the top leagues and played for the likes of Nottingham Forest. He looked to be a good signing but he failed to score goals.

I think the failure to sign another proven striker in the recent transfer window could cause us to falter.

I accept hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Thanks Spiritater, that's the guy.

Seemed to be a good signing at the time, but proved otherwise.

We've got Ajose, Walker and Hamilton plus loads of attacking midfielders. I don't think it's critical that we get another one in.

Maybe not critical but not ideal to have less than four strikers when you play two up front. And CJ is not a striker imo so we are short in that area.

If we were to lose Walker for a length of time I think we will struggle , keep Grant , CJ , Ajose, walker all fit we will be fine but back up is now needed just in case the worse case scenario happens ..

None of which are effective in the air. I wouldn't describe CJ as a striker.

We are definitely short and need someone.
