Wow.....Opinions Hey !!

This is what the Discussion forum is for...even if someone just compared Johnny Mullins and Ryan Tafazolli with George Foster

Big George was immense, for many years and was a Championship standard defender, playing in his prime for a Lg2 and then a Lg1 Mansfield team.....he was also as hard as nails.
The fact we made good money from Simon Coleman and that Kevin Gray went onto bigger and better teams is also testament to George and how he helped bring them on.....

Flinty is great......just what we needed but even he aint anywhere near George Foster yet !!

Remember the interview on the pitch at Chester in 87....

He's as important to our game as Matt Green was all those years ago.

Seem a right op bloke. Good solid accent too.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

Boam played in the old First Division for many a long year, he was special. Not saying Flint isnt, but to compare I think you have to look at the entire career not just the Stags period.

Aden Flint is without a shadow of a doubt the best centre half I have ever seen in a Stags shirt. I have been attending regularly since 1997 and I can't even think of a signing that has been more influential than him.

The psychological aspect of him in a Stags shirt has definitely won us points. The fact his name was on the teamsheet against Notts County at home gave us all a huge lift and no doubt influenced the County mentality.

Good to see Simon Coleman get a nod. We never saw the best of him as he moved on for £600k (I think) when still very young.
Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.

I know the point he’s making but someone should tell him Wimbledon have two more than us

I think Aden Flint would have played in Division 1 in the 70's and 80's like a lot of Championahip players. It's so much harder now to play in the Premier League because of all the overseas players. There are also only 20 teams.

We made a packet out of Calderwood too (eventually), though most of it was trousered by you know who.

I'm still trying to get over the fact Darren would not have George in his best ever Stags 11, utterly gobsmacked.

I would agree with Ben that Flinty is the best CB we have had since 1997, but as Johnny has said, has a long way to go before he gets into the best ever conversation with Foster and Bird - who have 900 appearances for us between them, two titles, two other promotions, a Wembley Cup win and were at the club for over 10 years, Flinty has 46 and has been here 9 months

If its about "played at the highest level" then we have several international footballers who would also be in the reckoning, though not in anyone's best ever Stags 11 - eg John McLelland, Killer (played for Eng U21 and won the FA Cup), Keith Curle, Carlton Palmer etc, etc, etc. It's like giving player of the year to someone who has only played half the year ;)
