Need to get a defender now.

Currently have 7 proper defenders and we play a back 5, too thin on the ground, especially when JJ is past it

Surprised to get a fee, thought he’d be off on loan

Done well to get a fee there.

Good luck Kellan. If they go down which I think they will, he will be very good at National League level.

It won’t be great business if we pick up 2 injuries or suspensions in defence

Hmmm surprised we’ve not signed another defender today. We’re lacking both quality and depth at the back and it will be the reason we don’t go up this season.

Not a world beater but there’s worse out there.

The deal is good in isolation. Getting a fee for a player who would undoubtedly be moved on in the summer is great but just a bit concerned about the depth back there. The place will be kicking up a fuss if Akins is back at RWB as there’s nobody else. Easy to think it won’t happen, but it has happened already this season and our numbers are the same.

Sorry to see him leave. Didn't get enough games as a winger, but showed some useful ability with pace and good crosses.
Never a defender, of course. So with new signing Johnson being able to defend as well as go forward, Gordon was bound to see his first team chances become very limited. Good luck to him at Crawley.

How much cover would you like … I think most would agree getting Kellan a club with 18 months to go is good business particularly for a fee.

At times good going forward but a defensive liability

I’d be lying if I said that we had good depth at the back wouldn’t I.

McLaughlin has no cover whatsoever. Perch and O’Toole aren’t good enough but we’re just one injury or suspension away from them two playing far more than they should. If Johnson gets injured/suspended, Hewitt goes to RWB which means Perch and/or O’Toole are having to play too much.

We’ve really improved the squad with the signings we’ve made in this window - all four of them are a great age, are proven at this level and should all start for us. But the defence still looks fragile to me, and will look extremely threadbare when we inevitably get an injury or two back there in the coming weeks and months.

True. We can’t have any faith in him to play well and stay fit however. He’s a really, really lucky person if we offer him a contract to the end of the season put it that way

What's the latest with him, is he under any sort of contract?

Crap defender, crap winger. To get a fee when he's out of contract in 6 months is the best buisness weve done in years

We’ve got Kilgour, Hewitt, Harbottle as the back 3. Perch is adequate cover, JJ as cover cover, Johnson can play there if there’s a tragic training ground incident which takes 3 of the centre halves out. Macca LWB with 2 covers in Wallace/Page. Hewitt covers Johnson as RWB. So that’s Akins and Bowery as far away from wing backs as they need to be, but available in case a second tragic training ground incident takes the rest out. Midfield and upfront? Good luck picking the starting 5.
