Now watch how many say Hawks is a world beater.

This place will go mental for a few hours tomorrow.

I mean, he’s a valuable player considering he’s a good option to have up front and does a serviceable job at the back (of course he should just be a backup option as a centre back rather than starting their every week). Even more valuable when you think about how small our squad is.

They are our 2 best players…. We need about 5 players in January anyway, never mind letting your 2 best players go.

It is being reported that Gillingham will double Hawkins’ wages.

If true then we need to quickly re-invest or else this season is rapidly becoming a write off.

On paper Hawkins turns 31 this year so if we get a decent fee then it makes some sense however he has been captain in recent games so just sends out a very weak message. Also if you're going to apply this sort of reasoning to sell players we need a recruitment policy to match and be actively bringing players, which we are not.

Lapslie will leave this month but again does not reflect well that we've failed to tie down one of our better players and long term prospects.

Wonder how much of a collective fee we’d get from Gillingham if this is true?

I really hope we don’t lose them both (although I’m resigned to losing Lapslie), but if we do, we need to replace use their wages to replace them with two quality starters AND use the transfer fee we get to sign a 3rd quality player.

Nobody in this current squad is irreplaceable.

Not sure I trust Clough to replace them with better though.

We needed a CB coming in anyway even with Hawkins still with us. If he was to leave then I hope we are going to be looking at 2 CB’s and not just going for 1 in 1 out.

1 in 1 out at CB could have sufficed if it was JJ or Perch leaving but not Hawkins.

Would make sense, both Southern lads, Hawkins worked under Jackett at Pompey.

For the club it makes business sense to cash in on players who have six months left, but you can question whether it makes football sense.

You genuinely have got to ask though

Record season ticket sales

Strong shirt sales and training wear sales

Where's the ambition?

If these 2 end up going then we're moving from a January window of plugging gaps and strengthening in areas towards the territory of borderline full squad rebuilding, which with the best will in the world is probably not going to be done in a January transfer window at the best of times. We probably needed 3-4 new players, without 2 first teamers leaving.

They definitely aren't our best 2 players.

If this is true then a rebuild is required, pretty imminently. How many first teamers have we got left under 30 if these 2 leave?
