Yeah. Definitely agree on DJ. On Flinders I see what you mean. That's the sticking point really because flinders was named on the bench throughout so was available but so was Adam Collin.

Maybe we take a leaf out of Clough's book and don't include keepers in the total? So it's like an average age of outfield players.

To be fair a keeper's "peak" age is usually higher than other outfield players.

Ok, any limit on player minutes or just anyone who has played a league minute?

I personally am not looking at overall % of squad

In a lot of previous posts last season/summer/early season 22/23 people have named individual players and then as a collective raised concerns about the age of the first team 11

I think the only fair way to look at it is players brought in. As this shows the way forward how NC is looking at individual younger players, and the future

Context for me is intent, irrelevant if injured, as the argument was we have too old players in MTFC

Goalkeeper - Pym. N/A as I agree with Goalkeeper age irrelevant. It’s outfield players
Loans - Swan age 22. Harbottle age 22. Yes they feature regularly in our 11 chosen so I include
- Boateng age 27
- Reed, DKD age 25
- Kilgour age 24
- Hartigan age 23

(If my ages are wrong, it’s because I can’t add up lol  )

So ages in the squad show 5 out of 11 that are all good enough to be picked if not injured in our starting 11 range from 22-27. Thats half of the starting 11 outfield players
When you think you know the answers, I change the questions

I'd say with it being average squad age, it'd be any outfield player on a professional contract who was able to play in a game for us.

If transferred out in summer (like DJ) wouldn't count pre January but would post January.

Maybe exclude goalkeepers because Adam Collin was likely never going to get a game. Or just exclude Adam Collin.

Average age of every player to play a single minute so far is 27.63, excluding new signings this becomes 27.95, including Keillor Dunn it becomes 27.55.
Weighting it by minutes played makes it 28.57.

What are the expected ages though?

Yeah. Let's just all agree the squads a bit younger and leave it at that.

If they’re in the first team squad then by definition, they’re part of it. Doesn’t matter if they’ve played or not.

Believe it or believe it not, the starting XI on Saturday against Doncaster was the oldest of any side in League two this season

Walsall commentators kept going on about the Stags having the oldest squad

Radford on Facebook again

'FYI Walsall did not match the bids we’d received from other clubs with terms that Danny and his agent could agree too. Danny did not want to go anywhere else so he remains a Stag.'

In other words they tried to get him on the cheap. I personally would have taken 50p and a bag of wurthers but I understand why JR rejected Walsalls low bids.

Yet you've got Walsall's side saying we set a ridiculous price no one was going to pay

I bet Gillingham would have payed it!

Of course Walsall are going to say that or their fans would see they were being sold short.

Wait till he goes to the conference in the next few weeks and see how they react then. I can’t even see him going to Walsall in the summer and no doubt we will get the blame for that as well.

If he's on 8k per month I'd say that's not bad

I'd imagine he's on more than 2k a week.

If DJ is on 8k a month its six months not four.
Feb, March, April, May, June followed by a months severance pay at the end of his contrat.

6 x 8 = £48k at least would have been saved if he had moved on permanently to another club.

I suspected Walsall and DJ had a pact where he refused to go elsewhere so we could only sell him to Walsall. They would then expect us to have to accept their lower offer (possibly backhanding some of the savings to DJ for being part of the plan) as DJ wouldn't go elsewhere.
JR has called their bluff and said sod off, others were willing to pay more.
The upshot is all 3 parties are losers, the only possible benefit to us is if DJ had scored enough goals to help Walsall get above us, which I think is unlikely.
A sorry affair all round really, but at least JR had the balls to call their bluff.

I'm currently staying in the same Nairobi Hotel as the Tusker FC team, Kenyan national champions. They play in black and yellow and are nicknamed the Brewers. I'll report back findings to Nigel and Simon.

I used to stay in the Crowne Plaza when I was working there. I bumped into Uhuru Kenyatta in there once. And also some very attractive ladies in the bar too.
