Love it when "on-site parking" is part of the benefits of a job. Proper scraping that barrel.
No mention of if it's free or not, though

This scandalously low hourly wage is probably why they can't get the staff and the staff they do get don't give a monkeys.

Remember £9.50 is minimum for people aged 23+. Aged 21-22 is £9.18. 18-20 is £6.83. Under 18 and apprentices is £4.81. As a slight aside to that. If you get on an apprenticeship at any age you can legally be paid £4.81 for the first year, after that it's whatever age bracket you fall under.

The living wage dot org folk suggest the minimum wage should be £10.90 an hour and all good employers should be paying this rate.

Unfortunately, that's not the legal living wage.

Form April 2023 the rates change again. 33+ £10.42. But that living wage you quote will also go up.

So expect yet more price increases next year. Just to save a company's profit margin.

As a general rule, if your business model relies on you not paying your staff enough to live on then it's not much of one.

Totally agree. This flipping club man.

Just let 'minimum wage' sink in for a moment. They are offering the Lowest they legally can get away with. It should be double this because the hours are so short.

This sort of thing really annoys me.

'community club' my back side. It's exploitative.

I assume those working have to get to the ground (unpaid time and travel costs) work for 5 hours and then get home again. On a Saturday for say seven hours time take for what sounds like could be 24 pounds 5 pence.

In answer to a comment above yes I think I’d be willing to pay slightly more for a season ticket or a pie or a pint so people can be paid properly.

Clearly jobs aimed at youngsters, students etc. Like all lower end catering / serving roles. When I was 16/17/18 and at WNC, at times I had 3 part time jobs, equally as glamorous as this for the going wage at the time which was bugger all. It got me beer and fag money, petrol in my car, paid for away trips and gave me some income while 'studying' and living at home.

If there are better options and the club is paying below market value,, they won't fill the roles, simple as that. It's supply and demand. It's ridiculous to mock the club for paying the national minimum wage when a solid percentage of jobs are min wage and where without the minimum wage many employers would pay less. Living wage... what the hell is a living wage for a 16 Yr old 6th former anyway?

If you do a full time (40 hr/pw) job on minimum wage, its a smidge under 20k a year!!! Not many years ago it was a good chunk less.

Some very judgy comments in this thread from people who have no doubt themselves had to do what it took to get some income at times. This is clearly a part time, casual job for a bit of extra spends,, not a career and not a job that requires any specialist skills.

Before I could drive, I got lifts, relied on my parents, the bus etc to get to part time jobs. I'd quite happily drive my kids to do a crap part time job at 16 so they could earn some money, get work and life skills and some independence.

It's not exploitative it's economics, business and casual part time labour. Its always been like this and to suddenly expect MTFC to pay double, as one said, £38k pa pro rata no less, to serve at a food till is mental.

The sentiment in this post is indicative of the county at the moment. Ridiculously judgmental, unrealistic demands and a 'im better than that' attudue... if you can do better, great, but if £20k a year, pro rata, isn't enough to pass pies over a counter then the country really is done for.

Except Jamie, the youngsters aren’t being paid £20,000 per annum. 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year equates to £10,004.80. So approximately 50% of the minimum wage based on age alone and absolutely nothing to do with skill level or training.

You were fortunate to have parents willing to subsidise you and drive you to part time jobs but unfortunately not everyone is that blessed.

As you correctly say, recruitment will depend on working conditions and that’s probably why these jobs are always available.

I was also grateful for a Saturday job when I was 14/15 years old but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t exploited nor does it mean that practice should continue into the future for the youth of tomorrow. My wages subsidised a household struggling on low wages instead of providing extra luxuries for me. Unskilled jobs should carry the same minimum wage irrespective of age and anything less is exploiting youth. That way younger workers wouldn’t be replaced when their age dictates a wage rise and they become surplus to requirements.

And to all those wondering where the thread is going, my sincere apologies and let’s get back to football.

Zero hours contracts need to go and Stags shouldn't be using them, they're exploitative. The low wages are scandalous. Just because it's legal to pay that low an amount doesn't make it morally right. £10 an hour should be the minimum for everyone. Stags have run lots of adverts asking for staff this year so there's obviously a high turnover and you have to ask why that is.

I think they'd prefer to earn enough to save up for a house or car, but it's not possible on those wages. I don't know what matches you've been watching but whenever I've been I've seen a wide variety of ages in the various roles. It's not just about giving kids an opportunity, lots of people rely on these jobs to pay the bills and, frankly, they're not paid enough.

For goodness sake, Jamie and Geoff are both spot on. It's not a career role, it's a bit of extra spends. Nobody is being forced to do it.
If small businesses had to pay £20 ph as some on here seem to want then there would be very few businesses around. You'd have to kiss goodbye to every pub, butcher, Baker and small independent shop.

That's the fundamental problem, if you can't make your business work without paying your staff the minimum that the law allows you to (less than something that is literally called 'the living wage'), then they're essentially subsidising it for you, so is it you that's making your business work, or are they in fact bailing your business out? I get the Saturday jobs/students aspect, but as an adult if you work 40 hours a week then the very minimum it should allow you to do is not to have to scrimp, save, visit food banks (or food pantries as the Tories have now tried to rebrand them as) or get your wages topped up by tax credits. That's what's happening right now in a whole raft of businesses and sectors, both public and private.
