There’s a lot of momentum at Stockport that’s obviously been building for years as they’ve come back through the leagues and it’s difficult to stop. They’re used to being at the top end fighting for promotion now. They’re the favourites for 3rd in my opinion.

Totally agree, I'd even go as far as saying they could finish above Stevenage.

Bookies agree with you both too.

Before tonight Stockport were shorter odds than us for automatic promotion despite us being a point in front of them.

Only 4604 there total, so probably no more than about 1500 home fans

Will Collar at Stockport must be earning admirers from further up the food chain. Doesn’t have all that many career appearances for a 26 year old but is certainly making a big impression in League Two at the moment.

We've got Northampton and Stockport away coming up . What we do there may have a big bearing on the season end. Lets hope the injury list shortens.

It’s all ifs and buts and too tight to call imo

2nd and 3rd could end up being 2 of a handful of teams

Play offs is even harder to predict

Very exciting for the neutral but a nightmare for fans involved

To me it looks even more open than last year

Relegation looks a rollercoaster ride too. I’m just happy we in the top end rollercoaster

But I suppose it’s better being in that than mid table playing for nothing teams

Hartlepool United 0 Newport County 1 (HT: 0-0)
Attendance: 3,908 (122 Newport Fans)

A 91st minute Aaron Lewis corner was headed in by centre half Micky Demetriou to win the game for Graham Coughlan's Newport. He also scored a 94th minute winner from a corner at Barrow. Offy Zinzala was then clean through on goal but Jokub Stolarczyk made a good save.

Hartlepool won 6 corners in the first 17 minutes but the nearest they came to a goal was when right back David Ferguson flashed a shot wide from distance. He normally plays left back. Newport then came into the game and by the 49th minute had also won six corners. It was a poor game though. The Hartlepool pundits said it was one of the worst games they had seen at Victoria Road since Hartlepool returned to the EFL last season. They are in danger of going down again. I think Rochdale are a better side after watching them against Salford and Stockport even though they lost both games. Dan Kemp was one of their better players on loan from Franchise FC. He's scored a few free kicks for them lately. Josh Umerah up front had no service at all.

Keith Curle's record as Hartlepool manager is now P29 W7 D7 L15

Hartlepool MOM: Edon Pruti (Left Back)
Newport MOM: Mickey Demetriou (Left Centre Half)

Doesn’t surprise me. I posted back on the 9th Jan that of the teams outside the top 3 at the time they were the favourites for a top 7 finish. At the time they were 14th.

I've fancied Stockport for a play off place since driving home from Rochdale in November. A Stockport fan phoned in to BBC Radio Manchester to apologise for phoning in a few weeks earlier demanding that Dave Challinor be sacked. They had just beaten Newport 2-1 away. Stockport's odds were still very mean though despite their very average start. They were only 1.6/1 for promotion.

They have one of the largest playing budgets in the league and the bookies know this.

I know it's obvious but it's all about points and what we do from now on. Going by Kirkby Stags stats, he predicts 81 to maybe go up, but you'd expect to go up with 85, anything less than 81 is play offs. We need 33 points from 15 games for 85. Our next 5 games will tell us everything: they are against clubs who all have a higher points per game than any of our last 10 opponents.

Leyton Orient: 70 points, promoted, all bar the shouting
Stevenage: 57 points, 16 games remaining. 85 means winning probably 8 of those 16
Carlisle: 55 points, 14 games remaining. 85 means winning maybe 9 of 14
Stockport: 54 points, 14 games remaining. Same as Carlisle
Northampton and Us: 52 points, 15 games remaining, we probably need 10 wins from 15 games, 9 at a push as long as we dont lose many.

I think Salford probably have too much to do with being 3 points further behind and having played a game more, and Bradford will have to win around 11 from 16

Beating Stevenage at home is about as big as it gets, and not losing away at Stockport and Northampton - those 4 days in mid-March when we play those 2 will be make or break. I think if we lose any of those games then it's play-offs.
We've got the slightly easier run-in of all those in 2nd to 8th (based on opponents points per games PPG). Carlisle have got the toughest run-in.

Stevenage: 1.30 average of remaining opponents PPG (1.16 average of home opponents away PPG/1.44 average of away opponents home PPG) - Salford, Doncaster at home - Carlisle, Northampton, Mansfield away
Carlisle: 1.59 (1.42/1.73) - Stevenage, Stockport, Northampton at home - Leyton Orient, Bradford, Sutton away. 6 of the top 10
Stockport: 1.42 (1.11/1.74) - Mansfield, Salford, Doncaster at home - Leyton Orient, Carlisle, Sutton away. 6 of the top 10
Northampton: 1.28 (1.09/1.45) - Stevenage, Mansfield, Bradford at home - Carlisle, Sutton, Doncaster away. 6 of the top 10
Mansfield: 1.27 (1.12/1.43) - Leyton Orient, Stevenage, Salford, Sutton at home - Stockport, Northampton away. 6 of the top 10
Salford: 1.49 (1.09/1.80) - Leyton Orient, Doncaster at home - Stevenage, Carlisle, Stockport, Mansfield away. 6 of the top 10
Bradford: 1.28 (1.14/1.39) - Leyton Orient, Carlisle, Sutton at home - Northampton, Doncaster away. 5 of the top 10.
