Can Stags finish in the TOP 7 (PLAY-OFFS)

Postby KirkbyStag2 » Sun Sep 18, 2022 8:08 pm

I'm predicting Stags will need 81 points to finish in the TOP 3.

Current Table
PLD...W...D...L...PTS...PPG
..9.....5...1...3....16....1.78

Required for 81 points
PLD...W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.37...21..2..14....65...1.76
.37...20..5..12....65...1.76
.37...19..8..10....65...1.76
.37...18..11..8....65...1.76
.37...17..14..6....65...1.76
.37...16..17..4....65...1.76
.37...15..20..2....65...1.76

Stags current PPG 1.78 would total 82 points over a season.

Target 1 50 points.
We should not be putting up such threads so early as it smacks of entitlement imo.

Target One and when we get there (late Dec/Jan'd be nice) will give us a better barometer of what's to come.

As opposed to setting the bar low on getting 50 points for survival.

So which match will we hit 50pts if we continue at this rate of points per match.

I feel we are a top centre forward and classy centre half short in this squad
If found i believe we can win this league?

Hang on, weren't you saying we wouldn't make promotion without another striker and centre back the other week?

There are 4 or 5 sides including ourselves who have a realistic chance of winning the title. Barring any disastrous runs like last year I think it will be January that splits us. Whoever signs a couple of Matt Smiths will go up and whoever gets a couple of Jamie Murphys will be playoffs at best

If Clough is able to get a full season out of our key players, top 3 is certainly achievable. I rate Lapslie as the best striker in the division, and he seems to be forging a good partnership with Akins.

Injuries and January signings will decide. We need to improve our consistency and hope the performance of others drop off too. I'm thinking to get top 3 we need everything to go our way. Playoffs are our most likely finish, I'd thinking 5th. Anything outside the top 7 will be disappointing.

What’s the point of setting yourself that target tjat you’ve just admitted we’ll probably hit halfway through the season.

It's all a bit silly really. The target has never been 50 points, the target is promotion, rightly so as we have the resources and manager to do that. Anything less than top 7 will be regarded by most as failure.

There will be at least a dozen posters back to slating him for poor tactics if we don't beat Crewe. Even if he picks the same team who dismantled Donny and Gillingham.

At least one of those will call him a dinosaur not fit for modern football.

Then when we beat Hartlepool it'll be because they were poor.
