Of course that would mean getting experienced and competent defenders through the door which would be difficult and probably expensive. We have enough utility players to cover injuries and suspensions in other areas of the pitch.

The most telling part of your post is we have enough utility players , tbh we have too many of them a team of jack of all trades BUT MASTERS OF NONE

Yes that’s why we need the defenders. We have masters of their trades but unfortunately they are being played out of position. They can actually return to their best positions if we get natural defenders in, they haven’t lost their mastery in the process.

Yes sorry it came out wrong from me we do have good players we just need a couple of specialist defenders and perhaps a goal scorer

I'm predicting Stags will need 73 points to finish in the TOP 7 (PLAY-OFFS).

Current Table
PLD...W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.25...11...5...9....38....1.52

Required for 73 points
PLD...W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.21...11..2...8.....35...1.67
.21...10..5...6.....35...1.67
.21....9...8...4.....35...1.67
.21....8..11..2.....35...1.67

Stags current PPG 1.52 would total 70 points over a season.

On course to finish about 10th.

I’ve been holding off booking an holiday at the end of May because I did it last year and had to cancel it when we got to Wembley, but I’m confident that won’t happen this season so I will be booking something on Monday.

Changed the title of the thread at last.
The team has not a hope of a play off as it stands. Canada in May for me and has been booked since mid November.

Pym seems to be blameless by the fans and manager. Would love to know his save rate this season and I’m still waiting for this world class distribution he has according to fans around me!

Passed it straight to a Barrow player who went through but hit his shot straight at Pym, he should have scored. It was poor from Pym.

Following the incomings to the club this week, I feel that we are now more than capable of achieving the playoffs.

With the two additions in defence we now have a bit of pace at the back allowing us to play on the forward foot. Clarke should be back in the short term and playing Johnson as the holding midfielder should allow Maris to get forward more. I think we should see more goals from the midfield as they will hopefully be getting up the pitch more and taking some of the pressure off Oates and Swan. I also predict a couple more goals from Quinn and Macca.

With a bit of luck, I also wouldn’t give up on third place if we can get a couple of early wins.

I have tried not to look at the table over the past four weeks
Due to the postponement I have . There are five teams below us that can climb into the playoffs if they win their games in hand . We have dropped like a stone due to poor defence and no key striker.
Listening to SE he claims the 15 pre season signings were a must and to be promoted you need a minimum of 22 good players in the squad. They certainly look promotion material after today’s result.
From Saturday we need the signings to work and Oatsey to get those killer boots on.
I believe we can still do it , just needs players playing in their most comfortable positions.
The second half of the season will be a roller coaster ride . I hope for NC sake and ours he pulls it off.

But we've lost 2 established players and another to a season ending injury so head wise we are no better off although admittedly the additions do balance the squad better as regards age and mobility. I really don't understand why people think our situation has changed so much at the moment. We still need a goalscorer or poacher whether that's a forgiven DJ or someone else we don't yet know about and another commanding centre back.

Yes but one of those was playing in a position where he was not promotion material but just about ok for mid table. He’s been replaced by a player who has performed well in the league above. We’ve also recruited a tried and tested holding midfielder who will enable Maris to get further forward. The third signing is an experienced and efficient right back/wing back which was also a problem area. All three signings bring more pace at the back and we should stop conceding so many goals.

As we are now more secure at the back, we should be able to get more players forward and supporting the attack which in turn will produce more goals. We haven’t been thumped on a regular basis so this should be enough to bring more wins. I agree with Clough that we don’t necessarily need a new striker. The age of the squad has also been reduced.

I would sign one more defender as back up and another attacking player to sit just behind the striker/s and mop up the loose balls.

We weren’t that far behind that we can’t catch third if we can keep injury free.
