Bumped into Jake Buxton a few weeks ago, he was watching his lad Beau playing in a 6 a-side tournament in Ashover.

Asked him what he was up to these days and he says he does a bit of coaching still for Derby's academy.

At least 2 other fairly recent ex-Stags have played in the Europa League this season too: Adi Yussuf for St Josephs in Gibraltar and Timi Elsnik for Olimpija Ljubljana

Yussuf has signed for Gateshead.

And Danny Johnson had a penalty saved.

Dele Alli scored his first Besiktas goal in a 3-2 comeback to send Adam Murray’s Besiktas top of the table after 5 games.

Matty Blair announces retirement from football aged 33

"After several meetings with specialists, it became clear Blair would not be able to make a comeback. "I’ve made this decision due to a lack of options really," he said. "It’s a knee injury that has sustained since last season. The options available to me would have either meant less time being spent with my family, due to not being able to walk for a couple days after games, or have an operation which would effectively have a two-year recovery period."

I wonder if it is the same knee he injured at Carlisle United whilst playing for the Stags in January 2015.

I did like Matty Blair, was great for York and was decent for us but didn't he leave for Donny as soon as he was back from injury for us?

The reason that Matty Blair left for Doncaster Rovers in June 2016 was that Adam Murray decided not take up his option and offered him less money. This meant he was free to sign for Donny Rovers who would not have offered him a great deal of money as Darren Ferguson has said that he did not have a big budget

"Winger signs for Doncaster after turning down Stags' deal
mansfieldtown.net, 24th May 2016

Matty Blair will ply his trade at League 2 rivals Doncaster Rovers next season after turning down the offer of a new contract at One Call Stadium, the Stags can reveal. The 26-year-old winger made 32 league appearances for us last season. Manager Adam Murray said: "Matty Blair has turned down the chance to continue his career with us after deciding to join another League 2 club. We wish him all the best for the future."

Adam Murray interview on StagsPlayer, 26May2016:
"We had options on all the players apart from Ryan (Tafazolli) and Reggie (Lambe). We decided not to take up the option on Matty Blair. We offered him a deal that I thought was value for the player and the output, and Matty decided he that wanted to go somewhere else."

"Ritchie Sutton and Gary Taylor-Fletcher have been unveiled as the new joint-managers of Nantwich Town. The pair have been chosen to succeed former boss Dave Cooke, who recently left the club by mutual consent after over five years in charge. Ritchie, 36, made over 40 appearances for the Dabbers during his first spell in 2009/10. After a prolonged period playing across the football pyramid, he returned to the club in a player/coach capacity back in July. He will be joined in the dugout by Taylor-Fletcher, who amassed over 500 career appearances and most notably featured over 200 times for Blackpool, helping them secure promotion to the Premier League during the 2009/10 season.

Nantwich Town chairman John Dunning said: “We have been overwhelmed by the quality of applicants and interest in the position. In Ritchie we feel that we have a young enthusiastic, highly qualified manager, with a fresh outlook and ideas, and with a personal history, association and understanding of the club and its ideals and culture, but most importantly a shared vision and passion for our future ambitions and development. We are also delighted to have obtained the services of Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who is a highly respected and qualified coach. The experience that Gary has gained in a distinguished playing career from non-league to the Premier League, along with taking Bangor City to the Europa League in his first managerial position, will be a great asset to the club."

"Grimsby Town Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of former Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Jamie Pardington until January 2023. Standing at an imposing 6’5″, the 22-year-old goalkeeper’s career started at Rushall Olympic, before signing for Wolves in 2018, where he spent periods out on loan at Bath City, Stratford Town, Dulwich Hamlet and most recently Mansfield Town."
