I had a chat with Nathan Arnold before the game who is the former Newark & Sherwood manager but moved to Cleethorpes Town earlier this season. He is living in Gainsborough. He told me that the Cleethorpes backroom staff left shortly after he arrived and so he recruited Craig Disley as his assistant manager who lives in Market Rasen. They are currently 6th, just outside the play offs, in the NPL East (Step 4). Worksop are running away with the league.

Kian Sketchley has been getting very good reviews apparently.
Newark had a few former Stags youth team players playing for them - Nyle Blake, Tom Slone and Kian Sketchley. Nyle Blake scored the first goal.

I also bumped into former Mansfield Town Chairman James Derry in the sponsors bar but he scarpered quick after he saw my Stags scarf. He was probably getting Vietnam flashbacks

Ray Clarke on Big Match Revisited this morning scoring twice for Brighton December 79..... I'd forgotten how big a centre forward he was.

He was brilliant against Notts last week, completely ran the show. Far too good to be at that level.

The Holy Blues had Clayton Donaldson (38) (Brentford, Birmingham City) up front. Worksop must be paying big money this season as they included lots of former League 2 and National League players including Doncaster Rovers legend Paul Green (39), Bradford City’s James Hanson (34), Liam Hughes (30) (Cambridge United and Barrow), Terry Hawkridge (32) (Scunthorpe, Notts County and Lincoln), Hamza Bencherif (Notts County, Lincoln) and Sam Wedgebury (33) (Macclesfield and FGR). Terry Hawkridge and Sam Wedgebury both played on loan for the Stags. Worksop won the game 1-0 with a counter attack from a Gainsborough corner where Jay Rollins crossed from the right for Paul Green to score with a header. Paul Green has since retired to be Donny Rovers’ full time 1st team transition coach.

On Saturday, Neal Bishop’s Gainsborough beat FC United 3-1 away to go top of the Northern Premier League with young Stag Cody Collins playing at centre half. They had previously drawn 1-1 away with Richie Sutton’s Nantwich Town. They have played a couple more games than the other teams and four more than South Shields.

Worksop Town are 2nd in NPL East with two games in hand over leaders Stockton Town. Nathan Arnold's Cleethorpes are 3rd.

Good/interesting post. Thanks

Worksop Town - NPL Division 1 East Champions

Congratulations to Worksop Town who are back in the Northern Premier League (Step 3) after finishing 4th and losing in the NPL Play Off semi-final to AFC Fylde in 2014. Jack Muldoon was playing for them at the time and he joined Rochdale at the end of the season before joining Lincoln City and Harrogate Town.

Owner Jason Clark then withdrew his funding and Worksop voluntarily dropped down to the NCEL Premier (Step 5). It's taken them 9 years to get back but they obviously have plenty of financial backing now as they have had the likes of Paul Green, James Hanson, Liam Hughes, Hamza Bencherif, Sam Wedgebury, Terry Hawkridge, Ben Tomlinson and Jay Rollins playing for them this season.

Chapman’s goal against Grimsby in our 2-0 win as well is well remembered.

I think IIRC, we had him on loan for the season, Derby wanted us to buy in Jan, we refused as he would be free in the summer, and they recalled him as a result.

Alex Fisher has come off the bench for Yeovil Town and only 6 minutes later looks like he's broken his ankle. Keeper came out and dived at his feet and got the ball and the camera showed Alex in a lot of distress with his foot pointing in a different direction to his leg.

Been visiting the son today in Dundee, went to Dens Park and for me Ryan Sweeney was m.o.m.
Absolutely rock solid, never put a foot wrong.
Also scored a superb bullet of a near post header from a corner.
In reality probably not m.o.m as one lad scored a hat trick in a 7-0 win..
