Myself, Rob and a myriad of others backed Nigel to the hilt during our abysmal injury/suspension period last year. We thought circumstances were unprecedented and totally out of Nigel’s control.
The difference is that this year, they are not beyond his control and Nigel still has the opportunity to add to his squad this window. He has stated that his squad is complete and it is very highly likely that more players will be coming in.
I sincerely hope that Nigel is correct but I honestly do not think that we will be successful without at least one specialist addition.
Could it be that fans with extensive current knowledge of this division may be correct?. Football standards are rapidly increasing each year and this division is probably the one which reflects those improvements the most with most teams roughly on a par. Nothing can or should be taken for granted or you will get bit.
I have nothing against anyone who is posting we are short.
I've also said A LOT that I would like us to add one more.
I don't want to be an arse here but do you really think any fan (me included) has a more extensive knowledge of this division than Nigel? So as much as I enjoy and respect your posts, I'm inclined to go with his view over yours. Please don't take that as an insult.
I also know of 2 players he tried to add but couldn't (multiple bids turned down)
If the right player becomes available for the right package, he'll sign them. If they don't we go with what we've got and re-visit in January.
Ok Broomo maybe not but I think there a few who would run him very closely and I don’t include myself in those. I’m a comparative novice but others dissect the division in minute detail, look at Tippy and Musing’s posts to name just two and there are others just as worthy.
I do think he maybe under estimates the overall improvement since he last managed in the division and over estimates the difference in skill levels with those who have played in the league above.
In respect of making the signings in January, unfortunately I feel that will be too late as we can’t expect another record breaking upturn in form. On the contrary it may even once more disrupt a fledgling revival.
Each to their own opinion and we will see in May.
Nigel has never managed at League 2 level before here, so there is no "since last time".
I don't want to drag Tippy or Musings into a row but to suggest either of them could run NC close knowledge wise is quite frankly laughable and I do rate both of them as posters.
I could of course politely ask them who they (and you) would sign specifically but even if they suggest a player, he would have to be available, fit into our budget and want to come, none of those things anyone outside of the game could possibly be expected to know.
The lack of another signing is not down to NC not wanting to spend money.
I'm STILL hoping for one more in and I hope the generous chairman/owner still has the
appetite/faith in the people he put in place to run the football side of things to sanction it.
