Good strikers can win you games but good defenders will win you promotion.

I would have preferred Alex Woodyard

Anthony Hartigan looks a good signing on paper. He's 9 months younger than Jason Law and only 8/9 months older than Will Swan and Riley Harbottle but he has played 96(33) league games and a lot of them in League 1. Law, Swan and Harbottle have only made 19 league apps between them. He's only scored 1 goal though which is why I would want to keep Ollie Clarke and George Lapslie as they are midfield players who can score goals.

Not scoring goals will get you relegated!!! Whilst I agree start with a solid defence, the really good teams still have top goal scorers. You could have a fantastic defence and terrible attack and be relegated because the best you can hope for is 0-0. For me Oates, and I love him, needs someone decent with him. He was blowing out his arris for the last month of last season. He needs to play off a main striker imo.

I was racking my brain on where I had seen Anthony Hartigan last season and then I remembered it was from watching the highlights of one of Morecambe's epic home games last season against AFC Wimbledon. A couple of decent free kicks and a corner from Anthony and another great goal by Cole Stockton.

Our set pieces on Saturday were dreadful so that will be an improvement there.

He looks like a younger version of Antoni Sarcevic when you watch him strolling around in midfield. He has a lazy style but is good on the ball. A bit like Callum Cooke as well.

Bolton were rumoured to be interested in him in January.

A bit like Chris Clements as well?

Sounds like Jan Molby back in the day, that'll do for me Tippy.

A little bit. He looks a lot better at set pieces than Chris Clements and Alex MacDonald

Let's not forget though that Chris Clements was promoted to League 1 with Cheltenham along with Matty Blair.

It's a big move for him to leave London and move up North. A bit like George Lapslie. I hope he enjoys his time up here.

I hope folk give him a chance and don't start watching him with a view to confirming those (written) prejudices.

Again, maybe blind trust from me but I fancy our scouting team are better equipped as football judges than a couple of Wimbledon fans on twitter

He's come here for a fresh start. Let's give him one and hopefully enjoy and appreciate what he does bring rather than what he might not.

Very tidy in possession. Will sit at base of midfield in main, possession metronome type, not quickest feet, isn't too press resistant but can spray for run at times, confident and with targets he'll top progressive passing charts for league no issue lacks mobility and power out of possession, snappy enough but not gonna dominate 2nd balls or be a ball winner. Needs legs around him

Interesting. Doesn’t sound like there’d be room for him AND Maris in our midfield. Will be one or the other.

Don't get the Maris love in. Average end of last season and poor last week. Prefer Clarke in there personally.
