Bowery and Akins wing backs. Looks like Macca at CB.

Bowery over Gordon at RWB seems daft. We’ll see.

I don’t want to be negative, but I don’t either  Akins isn’t a natural wing back, Bowery is a striker playing wing back and we’ve got Macca, a left back playing centre back.

Big calls from Clough so hopefully he’s nailed them!

If he gets it right then fair enough but he might look a bit daft if we lose with all these players playing out of position!

Smith on the bench for Salford. Nartey starting.

I’d rather Akins wing back than striker if he’s got to play.

And surely Gordon should play if Asante is for Salford?

Seems a bit of a mess at the back.

We've trialled Bowery at centre back pre season, Macca would be wasted there, player of the year last year down the left side. Whether Bowery or Macca at centre half seems a waste of talent.

I think Gordon’s pace would have matched up better against Asante.

just shows how short we are of CB’s playing this system, why not wait until we have 3 proper CBs available ?

should have got one in, then played Macca & Gordon as wing backs

or even better gone to flat back four until Hawkins is back

not happy Cloughie, square pegs round holes

It's possible it's 4-4-2 narrow diamond, or 4-5-1/4-3-3. Akins at RB and Macca at LB.

Not a bad lineup. Bowery at centre back but apart from that and Swan up top, I think this is how NC wants us to lineup this season.

Would be odd given what we’ve seen in pre-season.

Whatever it turns out to be, the good news is we have the versatility to change if it’s not working.

Bowery may be at CH and Macca at LWB

Who knows with NC's square pegs in round holes
