I’d take a draw ahead of the game, I think this will be Salford’s best season yet in L2.

Also, a longshot given they’ve not sold out, but have 1 adult and 1 over 60’s ticket for sale for Salford away, both standing tickets. Cost me £25, willing to sell for £20.

I agree, draw away and win at home is the rule. If we can keep it tight maybe we can Nick more but would take a point now

I like some of the signings they’ve made, and I think the manager could turn out to suit the squad rather than the old school approach of Bowyer. Matt Smith is as good a line leader as you’re going to get at this level, they finished last season after he signed very well. Could be completely wrong. I had them down for 6th in my 1-24.

On't topic though, hard to tell properly where any team are at level wise in the league until a few games in, but I'm feeling confident of a win with a clean sheet to boot.

That is drastically unfair to suspend Hawkins. As if it wasn't punishment enough Getting sent off in a playoff final. Which was last season.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

Fingers crossed Perch is fit then. Hewitt has barely been involved throughout pre-season so wouldn’t be ideal throwing him in.

Still feel like a back 4 is our best option on Saturday, injuries and suspensions considered.

Hewitt has featured more than Perch hasn’t he?

Very harsh to suspend Hawkins, should be wiped out surely!

Imagine we’ll play with a back 3 still seeing as we’ve played it in every game in PS.
Could Cooper start maybe?

They have both only played 30 minutes throughout pre season from what I can see. I was under the impression Perch had played a bit more than that but not the case.

Surely it would just be better to go with O’Toole and Harbottle as a 2 just for one game, rather than pick players lacking in match fitness and sharpness, and just coming back from injuries with basically no pre season behind them? We have plenty of fit and ready to go midfielders and strikers that we could select.

Why do you think Bowery has been tried at centre back.
Those accustomed to privilege may feel that equality is oppression.

Well it won’t be the first time he’s out suspended. He’s a walking booking.

So the rest of the team could continue to play and get used to the desired system in absence of players throughout pre season, knowing that we will have proper defenders there in competitive fixtures.

He got caught on a few occasions on Saturday. If he was picked at centre back in preference to a back 4 it would be a huge gamble. Particularly against an experienced Centre forward like Matt Smith.

14 yellow cards in a season is shocking, much prefer a proper CB back there than him.

Bowery was at centre back last season too.

Clough mentioned Ollie Clarke is an option at the back. Perhaps he will start against Salford.

Quinn or O'Toole are more likely to get sent off than Hawkins imo.

You could say Quinn let us down more than Hawkins did, because we were crap without Quinn when he was suspended and we could've gained those much needed points for auto if he didn't do what he did. q

Surely we’re not that hell bent on the back 5? This very squad got to a playoff final playing a back 4. It would be a bold move to ignore that in favour of playing a forward or midfielder in defence who have never played there competitively away at one of the promotion favourite's. Ridiculous, even.

So what do we think the team will be? I reckon it will be something like:

Pym
Gordon Hewitt O'Toole Harbottle Macca
Boeteng Maris Quinn
Akins Oates

Harsh on Bowery as I think he can be affective at Wing back but going with the ''defenders'' at wing back for the 1st game.

If Quinn is injured then Lapslie to come in for him, if Lapslie still isn't fit then Clarke.
