Polish supporters?

Postby stagmanrob » Tue Jun 14, 2022 6:03 pm

Just wondering if anyone knows if we have any regulars with a possibility of setting up a Polish Supporters Club?

Just something I have noticed with work locally recently, I usually wear something with a stags badge on here and there, and there have been a fair few Polish lads come up to me all telling me they went to Wembley etc.

Always thought it's an untapped resource for new fans, there is a large community of them locally and they love their football.

Work with a Pole who heard the atmosphere while shopping on retail park when we played last league game of season. Has asked if he and his brother in law can come with me next season to a game. Not sure what they will be impressed with a Mickey Mouse cup game against an under 23 side .

I speak Polish, so if it's something that's set up and there's anything I can do to help I'd be happy to.

I don't speak a word of it personally, but worked with lots of Polish lads over the years and was speaking with one today who went to Wembley. He was telling me he took his five year old son along who is now pestering him to go more often. When I told him he could get a season ticket for his lad for less than fifty quid he was shocked and had no idea of the pricing.
I think if there was something out there translated into polish (almost everything is locally these days anyway) making the community aware and welcomed, I think it would be a big hit.

Met loads over the years who were die hard Poznan, Wizla, Legia etc fans who all miss going to games on the weekends. If a club made an effort to get them to go whilst on these shores, I'm sure they'd be regular attenders.

The TBC friendly oughta be at home to a team like Legia etc. Get in a lorry load of Tyske and Perla and they'll come. Be a great evening.

Am I missing something here? What is the club to do, exactly? If they really like their football and miss seeing it live, then they'd just go to our games, right?

I would have thought this is no different from the many conversations we have had on here about attracting kids to the club in the past. With that, people have suggested different engagement activities such as visiting schools to make kids aware that the club is here. Surely, the suggestion of some advertising in other languages or engaging with local community groups is a really good idea. If it adds a few hundred to every home gate and brings their kids in as Young Staggies then it seems a highly sensible idea.

Clubs have to compete with so many other things in the entertainment industry so they need to think about things like this

What you need is a poster advertising the club with prices on all in Polish then hand them out to all the local Polish shops so it raises awareness locally.

With the prices for season tickets being very good (particularly for kids) I do think it would help if they were advertised in a different language for the locality.

The kids who will be coming along will obviously be bi-lingual having gone to school here. The issue lies with getting their parents to know about it to bring them along. As I said, the lad I spoke to yesterday said he had a very keen five year old who wants to attend more regularly, but stated (in good enough, but broken english) that it was expensive for him and his son to go regularly. When I told him the price for a season ticket he was genuinely taken aback by it.
