He was a really nice guy.

My wife and I had a conversation about the Stags years ago in his wife's shop on Lord Street in Southport.

R.I.P. Billy. Vaguely remember you at Field Mill. A good manager in his day especially with Northern Ireland.

Not many managers would do that. Odds were stacked against him when he was our manager, but he gave it a go.

RIP Billy

If he had been appointed a few months earlier in Stags one and only season in the Championship (Div 2 at the time) Stags may have stayed up. In the last 9 games Stags were in the best form of the season, W4, D3, L2.

Brilliant job for Northern Ireland.

RIP Billy.

Wasn't Billy who brought John McClelland to the club & then later gave him his first NI caps?

That's right Sneag.

According to my MTFC book:

"John McLelland was Billy Bingham's first signing shortly after the old season finished. An £8,000 fee was enough to persuade Northern Premier League outfit Bangor City to part with the player, who had chosen to come to Field Mill despite another offer from newly promoted Wrexham...".

John McLelland made his debut for NI (as a substitute) on 17 May 1980, Billy Bingham having started as manager in March 1980.
