Speaking of pens… if it came down to it would anybody think about swapping keepers?

Stech would certainly look more imposing between the sticks.

I don’t think it would be a very Clough thing to do so wouldn’t expect it.

Could we get Logan back on a emergency loan? :)

Can anyone remember the last time a stags keeper actually saved a penalty in a shootout or during a game? I genuinely think it might have been Scott Shearer who last played for us over 5 years ago.

Agree regarding Bishop. He looks a bit small in the net doesn’t he.

Northampton go 2-0 ahead... 3-2 on Aggregate before stags score late and win on pens.

Northampton's HOME record v top 10.

W..D..L...F...A
5..3..2..11..8

Stags AWAY record v top 10.

W..D..L...F...A
0..3..7...7..17

On a positive note, Northampton have only beat one team (the top 10) at home by 2 goals, which was v Stags, when on the bad run.

All we need is a draw. Should have drawn at Swindon ( ghost goal) & Tranmere (went for win instead of settling), should have beaten Newport ( JJ’s madness and soft penalty) and could have got more at FGR barring a poor sending off.
I know that is not the reality but it shows we are capable of it if we keep our heads and with a decent referee. I believe Bobby Madley is a decent official despite his poor personal decision when he was a Premier League/FIFA referee. He doesn’t give too many yellows (average 3.3 pg) but is not afraid to give a red ( 6 in 39 this season)

Hope we don’t approach it as ‘we only need a draw’ though as it’ll be a long night…. We have got to go out to win to maintain the buffer. They’ll probably put all told more than 20 free kicks long balls throw ins into our box during the 90, we’ll do well to keep them from scoring if we sit back

Let's be honest, it's highly unlikely we don't concede. We need to score at least 1.

Been Stags don’t since 1969 and love the club but I feel we ain’t gonna make it
If we play like we did second half it could be a 3 or 4 nil job against us
Keeping the faith whatever but I just can’t see it
The Sutton and Carlisle matches did us and need never had to have played off
Should Rawson maybe play this game to add to height in that defence as those long throws are a menace to us

Time we did it. Cobblers have been up and down more than my trousers after a dodgy curry since the early 2000s. Proper yo yo club.

We have only failed to score in 10 out of 47 matches so far this season... and out of those 10, we drew four of them 0-0, which of course would be enough.

We have also only lost by more than one goal four times in the league this season... and that includes the utter unterhosen spell before October.

To say the second half was that bad, Bishop could've played the game wearing oven gloves.

They had a big slice of luck in the covid shortened season. They were on a proper downward spiral when the league programme was abandoned (I think we were the last club to beat them) and no way would they have made the playoffs. They had however already accumulated enough points to sneak into the playoffs due to good early season form. Had the games carried on they would have been lucky to finish in the top ten.

The playoffs did see them promoted but the obvious weaknesses in their squad saw them immediately relegated again. Maybe things will even up and they will fail despite finishing 4th this year. I sincerely hope that’s the case.
