Again, another one who’s performances have improved as a result of playing in his favoured position.

A good thread. I’m not yet saying Elliott is in contention but this years player of the year will be really competitive.

Another one who during our bad spell I was wondering why we had signed him. Doesn’t have the same support Macca has with Quinn so find his performances really impressive on the right!!

Still think defensively he can be exposed by better players.

But certainly been a solid player for us

I think Bowery also deserves a special mention, as do all the
team I guess.

Bowery has been working so hard for the team

Elliott just needs a bit of assistance down that right side

Neither have ever been as bad as some have portrayed on here. The Bowery thread must be very embarrassing for some, he has been superb recently.

Bowery was my player of the season last year.

I don't think any player in the team works as hard for the team as Bowery.

Hewitt was awful earlier in the season, and I genuinely wondered if he had his boots on the right feet at times, but he is also what happens when you give young lads a chance instead of slaughtering them out of the team - previous managers would have binned him off. We have a lot of players who aren't glory lads individually, but make the team better - I venture that Hewitt is one of them.

Honestly can't believe how much he's come on.

You can see his ability and confidence grow during these past games

I might be bias as we sponsor his away shirt

He is an unsung hero Yorkshire is right.

Very unassuming and quietly goes about his job. I wasn't particularly overwhelmed by his signing and it raised a few eyebrows because of his double relegation. For that he was always open to early criticism. However, he's been brilliant after a couple of dodgy games. He's dependable defensively and he gets forward well by spraying passes from wide.

He is arguably the most improved player. He got off to a dreadful start and it’s huge credit to him that he is now our first choice and reliable right back.

He still has a few moments that worry me, mainly his fondness for a blatant shove in the back of an opponent giving away unnecessary free kicks but he makes up for that by getting us out jail sometimes. His attacking player is also worth noting, as someone else mentioned he doesn’t have the support that Macca and Quinn offer each other on the left but he still gets into good positions and puts in a few decent balls.

I think he’s performed the same at right back pretty much all season, I wouldn’t say he’s improved as a right back. The only shockers I can remember him having were at centre back.

The right side was arguably at fault for 2 goals (I’d include Clarke in that as well) I think he’s much improved from that.

Wasn’t that the game where Clough called him out in the interview as well? Thought that knocked his confidence, which again, looks a world away now!

It was yes. I think it was an overreaction by Clough.

Clough actually failed to tactically deal with the obvious overloading down our right that game.

He was caught sleeping vs Hartlepool for their first goal.

I think going forward he's very good, but there's still work to do defensively.

Was he a RB before he joined Stags? He seems to get caught flat footed.

He was hung out to dry in the Bradford game with the formation so Bradford overloaded that side.
The whole ground could see it bar Nigel, it was squarely Nigels fault that day for not addressing it

Hewitt a solid member of the squad took time to settle but suspensions and injuries made it harder, Clough wanted more aggression out of him and he has delivered.

Might not be played of the year but definitely most improved player.
His 2 performances against Walsall this season echoes that.
Well done Hewitt, you're proved a few people wrong (me included).
