Ammies Scorefred Sponsored by Maintain Our Focus

Postby STAGS FOR LIFE » Wed Dec 08, 2021 10:10 am

:) Now we go into a match against Salford who we know will be up for the fight.

Confidence high in the team and NC driving them on , backed by the Amber and Blue Army i can see a narrow victory.

Super Stags 2 Salford 1

If they play like they did against the cheats, it should be 3 points. That said we have some very tired players and Salford have to go all out to stop the rot. I can see this being a draw.

Draw would be a good result. 3pts would cap off a fantastic week

It's so important that Oates and Hawkins are fit for this game. Not only do they give us a cutting edge and a varied attacking threat, but it also increases competition for midfield places in a 4-4-2. Assumibg Forresters ankle injury keeps him out, I'd play:

Bishop
Hewitt O'Toole Rawson Macca
Lapslie Stirk Maris Quinn
Oates Hawkins

I don’t think Clough will be in any rush to ditch the three at the back. It has worked nicely for us so far.

That’s good, Ash Hunter will still be suspended on Saturday.

good and bad. Hunter will still be suspended. But they will be fresher than us without a midweek game.

I must have been watching a different game then? Looked clear as day a 4 at the back to me.

It was clearly 4 at the back the whole game.

Was three at three at the back from the start until Rawson came on, when we switched to a four.

Watching the build up of the goal might answer it.

We switched to a 4 at half time, was pretty clear from where I sat in the lower.

Possibly. I definitely saw Rawson signal a 4 when he comes on to the pitch, you can see it on iFollow.

Yes it was a great cross from the right back, I know the position well  Of course Hewitt would cover inside when Macca went forwards but we clearly played a flat back four when Carlisle were in possession. Hewitt did some fine work in the right back position first half and we all commented at the goal that it was great to see one full back cross for the other to head home. It was very fluid though and Macca is a very attacking full back so I can see where there is confusion. BBC reported it as 4-5-1, not sure where they get it from but it is normally accurate.

We did not change it when Rawson came on, to us, also in the lower tier, he was confirming it was a 4 and we weren't changing to a three.

Rob, honestly, it was 3 first half, Charsley was at RWB, I have even just double checked on I follow.

I don’t think it was a four but it doesn’t really matter I suppose. As Rob says the formation was fluid and probably a bit of a hybrid of the two. The midfield all seemed to have the freedom to wander.

As you say Musings it doesn't matter, we won and I also think the last few games have demonstrated Clough's tactical flexibility, something he was accused of not having during the bad run. I think with Macca going forwards far more often than Hewitt it can look like we are a back three much of the time so I guess only Cloughie and the players will know for certain :D
