Good news. Seems like a unit and still got some growing to do. What's his history, where's he from etc?
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

First keeper from the academy that doesn't look like a stick insect

Good luck to him. I'd rather have him on the bench and send shelvey back.

Nottingham Forest are looking at Mansfield Town goalkeeper Owen Mason, reports Alan Nixon in The Sun on Sunday (07.11.21, pg. 59).
Mason, 17, is a youth player at Mansfield Town.

He’s involved with the first-team and is also a regular for the Republic of Ireland’s U18 side and now, Nixon reports in The Sun on Sunday this morning that nearby rivals Nottingham Forest are looking at the shot-stopper.

Steve Cooper currently has four first-team goalkeepers at his disposal – Brice Samba, Ethan Horvath, Nicky Hogarth and Jordan Smith.

Samba is his no.1 and Horvath his no.2, though Mason would be the youngest of the four and his potential arrival could pave the way for someone like the 26-year-old Smith to depart, or potentially Hogarth on loan.

Very little is know about Mason at this point. But given his experience with the Republic of Ireland U18s and Forest’s newfound links, it suggests that the 17-year-old has a lot of potential.

Jordan Smith has hardly had a kick for Forest or anywhere else after his poor loan spell at Stags in 2018-2019.

Where does that leave Shelvey?

Must be a blow for him to read that. He's only a few years older than Mason, is understudy to another young keeper in Bishop and isn't even being considered as one of Steve Cooper's keepers.

Forest looking at Mason a bit early , we have Stech seeing his time out, two goalkeepers on loan so why should he want to join there list of bench warmers.
His apprenticeship is here with Mansfield he will learn far more than being another cog in a big wheel.

Not sure about that Bear. He could do what he is currently doing here (playing for the reserves/youth team and third/fourth choice keeper) at Forest, with possibly better facilities and better coaching (purely based on them being a bigger club)

Come July 1st, he will likely be the only pro goalkeeper we have on our books if he doesn’t get poached.

Do a swap deal for Smith, who was here on loan a couple seasons back.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

Was he? I thought he was alright. At 26, he needs to start playing regularly.

As for Mason, be a shame to lose him so early on but you've got to do what's best for your development at that age.

I agree and looking at Mansfield youth development this is the best place, if Forest need a goalkeeper they have a option to buy one.
But at the moment the Stags are promoting youth into the first team, and money is limited for new players

Bishops the best keeper we’ve had in 30 odd years. I’d include Marriott and Ward in that, probably only Hitchcock and Arnold better in my time watching.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he goes on to be a successful international. He just looks like a keeper.

Who is the player that went on to be capped the most after they left us? McClelland? Galloway? Calderwood?

I really rate Bishop, he has been very good and looks destined for a big future.

It’s a bit premature to say he’s better than Ward and Marriott though!
