Northampton are a hardworking side but nothing special. Centre halfs Jon Guthrie and Fraser Horsfall are strong in the air at the back and have scored four goals from set pieces which is a worry bearing in mind our record on defending corners this season (5 conceded: 4 direct, 1 x 2nd phase). I always preferred Horsfall to Fiacre Kellaher at Macclesfield who Graham Coughlan wanted to sign. Mitch Pinnock has a useful long throw along with Sam Hoskins and they have scored from a couple of these long throws. We need to hit them on the counter attack which Rochdale did very successfully.

Northampton Characteristics (from whoscored)

Strengths
Attacking set pieces
Aerial duels
Defending set pieces

Weaknesses
Finishing scoring chances
Avoiding offside
Keeping possession of the ball
Defending counter attacks

Northampton Town
Under Contract: Michael Harriman, Fraser Horsfall, Joseph Mills, Jack Sowerby, Shaun McWilliams, Sam Hoskins, Scott Pollock, Harry Smith, Benny Ashley-Seal, Danny Rose
Signed: Nicke Kabamba (Kilmarnock), Mitch Pinnock (Kilmarnock), Paul Lewis (Tranmere Rovers), Dylan Connolly (St Mirren), Liam Roberts (Walsall), Jordan Flores (Hull City), Jon Guthrie (Livingston), Jonny Maxted (Exeter City), Sid Nelson (Tranmere Rovers), Aaron McGowan (Kilmarnock), Ali Koiki (Bristol Rovers), Kion Etete (Tottenham Hotspur-Loan), Dominic Revan (Aston Villa-Loan)

Sold: Caleb Chukwuemeka (Aston Villa)
Rejected New Contract: Lloyd Jones (Cambridge United), Ryan Watson (Tranmere Rovers)
Sold: Harry Smith (Leyton Orient)
Released: Ricky Korboa (Sutton United) Steve Arnold (Southend United), Matt Warburton (Halifax Town), Alan Sheehan (Oldham Athletic), Mark Marshall (Crawley Town) and Ethan Johnston

2-0 Stags today, Hawkins and Lapslie.

Great support from the stags as usual, they deserve much better today

I've got Bishop, Macca and Rawson on my team sheet and nothing would surprise me with any other positions picked by Clough.

That doesn't look that bad considering where we are with injuries and suspensions. Ward unlucky not to start.

Struggling to see what Ollie Clarke offer so far. He's scored a goal that helped us beat Newport but overall he's not been that impressive in either midfield role he's been asked to play.

Looking at the fixtures, we want Tranmere, Stevenage and FGR to win.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

No excuses today, we are virtually full strength, can only see Quinn for Bowery Tuesday night and Forrester for Hewitt next Saturday.

Filling up nicely, the advantage of having such a big following is we have part of the new stand on the side so we have sat about half way inside our half. I think this should also help our support too.

He’s been at the club for over a week so is integrated and a week fitter. No issue with that

Would have Ward for Bowery. Clarke sat in front of the back four not his natural game. Let him get forward from the left where Bowery is doing absolutely nothing. Add to that Ward bossed the last half hour last week, looks a natural in a defensive midfield role., always available and then found a yellow shirt. Yes he's young and it's away from home but just picking the old heads and fitting them into a system that doesn't get the best out of them is wrong. Round peg round hole every day.

Oldham take an early lead, 2, 0, against Stevenage.

Come on stags do the business.
