Wouldn't be surprised to see Leeds United looking for a new manager after last night's 7-0 thrashing by Manchester City.

They’d be daft. Bielsa is as good as they’re going to get. It was humiliating though. Enjoyed it. Dirty Leeds

How come Donny are skint? Their own stadium?

Doncaster Rovers are like many clubs including the Stags who rely on wealthy benefactors to survive. They have have generally been losing £2 million per year which was funded by Dick Watson and Terry Bramall who sold their Keepmoat company in 2006 for around £783 million with Dick Watson also receiving a golden handshake of £142 million. Dick Watson died in 2017 and the Watson family resigned as directors of Doncaster Rovers in July 2020. Terry Bramall confirmed his long term commitment to the club but said there were tough times ahead. He said “I am obviously sad that Andrew and his family have decided to leave the board but we respect their decision. There are tough times ahead for the club, due to the current pandemic, but David Blunt [Chairman], Gavin Baldwin [CEO] and I are confident that if we can get through this difficult period that once again Doncaster Rovers will have a bright future. I remain committed to ensuring Doncaster Rovers has a long term future and one that our community can be proud of.”

Doncaster Rovers made a loss of £556,750 in 2019-2020 and £1,851,232 in 2018-2019. It looks like they previously budgeted to make a loss of between £1.5 million-£2 million most seasons with the shortfall being covered by Watson and Bramall.

In June this year Donny announced they owed £800,000 to HMRC, £170,000 plus for player wage deferrals and also had to start the repayment of the EFL rescue loan. They said there was more than £1m of debt to be repaid on top of normal operating costs.

Previous profit and loss figures were as follows:

2018-2019: £1,851,232 Loss
2017-2018: £2,786,585 Loss
2016-2017 £936,282 Loss
2015-2016: £930,877 Loss
2014-2015: £1,111,995 Loss
2013-2014: £1,976,856 Loss
2012-2013: £1,916,939 Loss
2011-2012: £1,854,311 Loss
2010-2011: £1,790,209 Loss
2009-2010: £1,773,665 Loss
2008-2009: £1,746,132 Loss
2007-2008: £1,662,596 Loss
2006-2007: £1,578,025 Loss
2005-2006: £1,376,874 Loss

This is another club which owes money to HMRC, there are rumours of Liverpool owing tens of millions in tax.
Is there any way of finding out how much is owed to HMRC across the four leagues?

I don’t understand why HMRC continue to allow football clubs to basically tax dodge millions of pounds. If I don’t pay my tax I bet someone would be knocking on my door for it and it would be a drop in the ocean compared to football clubs and the rich.

HMRC have a special unit that focuses on collecting unpaid tax from football clubs. They are normally very hot on collecting VAT owed by clubs and unpaid income tax and national insurance contributions deducted by football clubs from players' wages under PAYE. They are normally quick to issue a winding up petition due to the fact that since the Enterprise Act 2002 the government is no longer a preferential creditor but only an unsecured creditor and so unlikely to receive anything if the club goes into administration or liquidation. They also hate the football creditors rule (current and former football players and managers on massive wages being paid before unsecured creditors) and have challenged it many times.

The government has advised HMRC to ease off collecting unpaid tax to help clubs get through the pandemic. Some articles say that football clubs owe over £140 million in unpaid tax. Derby County owe around £26 million.

2.4 million taxpayers owe tax to HMRC with a total debt of £42 billion according to figures in September 2021

Note: Many clubs do not pay corporation tax because they normally make a trading loss.

As predicted but Gary McSheffrey only managed to win one game. I also assume Frank Sinclair will continue as assistant manager as part of the good cop/bad cop routine. McSheffrey stays calm whilst Sinclair screams at the players.

Donny need to start searching for a manager who can win promotion from League 2.
