Yes an automatic place is possible, but a play off victory at Wembley in May sounds great doesn’t it ?

I’m going to let myself get carried away here.

Stags v Forest Green on the final day in a title decider - what could possibly be better than that?

A third of the season to go. We've had a poor third and an excellent third. I think an average third will be enough for promotion. I obviously would prefer us to smash it and be champions with a last minute winner against FG on the final day.

We have won 9 home league games on the spin. During 2013 including non league we had a better streak of 10 home games won on the spin. The 11th was v Exeter who halted our run. Exeter again this Friday. Coupled with the fact that is was 1998 when we last defeated them at home I think the stars have aligned against us. Win this one and I will start to believe just like I did when we beat Grimsby at home back in 2013.

The league is very tight far to early to say with 45 points to play for and some difficult away games coming up,

Estimated 81 points required for the Top 3

Current Table

PLD..W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.31..15...8...8....53....1.71

Required for 81 Points

PLD..W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.15...9....1...5....28...1.87
.15...8....4...3....28...1.87
.15...7....7...1....28...1.87

Stags current PPG 1.71 over a season would total of 79 points.

Brilliant win and atmosphere at Bradford, what a goal from Rhys Oates and I think that's the best performance I've seen from Nathan Bishop.

Two massive games now, a win v Exeter would put Stags in the TOP 3, however as "ST4GS" posted the Grecians are our bogey side at Field Mill.
Stags have not beat Exeter in the last 11 EFL games at Field Mill, with Exeter winning 7 and 4 draws.

Then, away at Tranmere, who are top of the current HOME table.

CURRENT FORM (last 8 games)
.................W...D...L...PTS
Exeter.........6...2...0....20
STAGS........5...3...0....18
Salford.......5...1...2....16
Bristol Rov..4...3...1....15
Poolies.......4...3...1....15

HOME TABLE
.................PLD....PTS
Tranmere.....17.....37
STAGS.........17.....36
Forest Grn....16.....35
Sutton Utd...17.....34

It's very do-able, we are building up a decent number of games in hand on some teams, I guess it all depends how we will respond to a loss.

Friday night will be a test but I thought that about the last 3 away games.

Tranny, FGR and Newport have had a few dodgy results and the Cobblers loss was a shock.

.14...8....1...5....25...1.79
.14...7....4...3....25...1.79
.14...6....7...1....25...1.79

Stags current PPG 1.75 over a season would total of 80/81 points.

CURRENT FORM (last 8 games)
.................W...D...L...PTS
STAGS........5...3...0....18
Exeter.........5...2...1....17
Poolies........5...2...1....17
Cobblers.....4...3...1....15

Brilliant win v Exeter, which could be a League 1 fixture next season.

Whilst I not saying this will happen, mathematically, the league title is now within Stags own hands.
12 points behind Forest Green with 2 games in hand and still to play them twice

Forest Green have got 3 points (drawn 3, lost 2) from the last 15 points (5 games) available.

Forest Green have also finished the last couple of seasons like a Flitcroft's Stags side.

That’s saying we only need to win two, draw one and lose one every four games to do it.

Easy peasy.

FGR have had only two poor results though in the last 12 or so games v Walsall and v Crawley. They have played the majority of these games away from home. Recently they have thrashed Tranmere away and gained good away draws at top opppnents after going behind v Salford, Newport, Port Vale, Sutton and drew the previous one at Northampton. A tough set of fixtures with results we would have snapped your hand off for.

We've got 2 or 3 games in hand over all those above us.

1 point behind 3rd 4points off 2nd.

It's a massive run in.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

I know it's pointless, but still having a 1.75ppg after sitting in 23rd place after the first 15 or so games is incredible. Having a table of the last 20 games would have us miles in front.

Our point total in the last 12 games is 30, 8 points clear of the next best (Bristol Rovers), and 9 points clear of the first play off team (Sutton)

Since beating Tranmere which brought an end to our winless run, we have played 17 and won 42 points (W13 D3 L1). Second best since then is Forest Green who have played 18 and won 36 points.

our current run is: played 18, won 14, drawn 3, lost 1, points 45.

(I'm not sure why you would remove the first win from our run)

That is absolutely staggering.

To put it into perspective, 2 points per game is League title form. We've averaged 2.5 points over those 18 games.

Incredible.

You'll still see a few posts saying "if" we beat Tranmere then I'll start to believe. "If" we beat Tranmere they'll roll it on to "if" we beat Port Vale.

I've always believed and if we can't/don't believe in these boys by now, we never will.

It's happening. Enjoy it. Believe.
