An injury to Quinn is my biggest fear. He really does make a massive difference to this side.

Agreed, he is one of our best signings for many years. It is good to see a played who has been at the highest level have such enthusiasm, clearly love playing for us and make such a difference to the way we play

Get another centre half in and O'Toole would be a solution if we lose Quinn?

Edit: in fact https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/burton ... oe-2894859 it's mentioned here that Clough thinks he could fit in Stephen Quinn's role.

Quinn was playing the midfield holding role for Burton when Nige made that comment.

O'Toole is not and could not be his direct replacement on the left. Stirk maybe but not O'Toole.

League 2 is more topsy-turvy than ever this season. With a couple of quality additions and a settled side (injuries and suspensions), no reason why we can't look to claw our way back into playoff contention.

Two winnable home games and a tough away fixture before Christmas. We could have 6 more points by then.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

I wasn't 100% sure what role Quinn was playing.

I seem to remember that Clough said, when signing Stirk, that he was competing with Quinn who wouldn't play every minute and game of the season.

Listening to Nigel Clough on the radio the away game at Harrogate sounds very doubtful.

I must say I do believe we can now after today.

A total turnaround. Not just the game, but the season.

Fair play Nigel. I salute you.

Just 18 points needed for the first hurdle then we set our sights on the playoffs.
The big big question is, 'are the leading runners too far ahead'? ie the top three

Interestingly we had 28 points after 22 games last season having lost just 6 games but won only 5 so draws were killing us. At the same time Bolton had played 21 and had also amassed 26 points and finished third by taking 53 points from the next 25 games. Champions Cheltenham took 47 points from their final 25 games and won with 82 so although it would take something very special to finish as champions there is still much to play for and with some of the football we are playing we are still in the mix IMO.

No way are they too far, if everyone won their games in hand then 3rd would be 39 points - 7 ahead of us. The top 3 would all have to come to us still. If Tranmere can get to 3rd then it’s a soft league, they were the worst team I’d seen in years.

Over the last 8 games we've picked up

4 points more than Forest Green
7 more than Northampton
5 more than Tranmere
10 more than Port Vale
10 more than Sutton
10 more than Newport
11 more than Exeter

While it's unlikely we'll keep getting 21 from 24 we've certainly given ourselves every opportunity of catching the top 5 and once we do I don't see us letting that opportunity slip.

We're in for a cracking second half of the season that's for sure.

The biggest turn around for me are the team directly below us.

When we went to Leyton Orient I think they were either 2nd or 3rd and wasn’t we second bottom?

Now we are above them, through our own efforts.

Brilliant to watch at the minute.

A great performance that day which showed the character of the side and what we are capable of. The fact that teams can rise Phoenix like or sink like the Belgrano in a couple of months is what makes football, especially at our level such a great game.

To me the playoffs are achievable but the greater question are we good enough to be promoted by whatever means? Do we have the (magic word) ‘it’ that is necessary?

Martin once asked me this about an Evans side, I did not reply mainly because it takes a lot of things to make ‘it’, such as players, great individuals, leaders, character, etc etc and I am leaning towards the play offs though not having ‘it’. Had we had played with a settled side this season without the blip it may have been a yes at the moment, like before…..still mulling it over.

Play offs are as much about luck and refereeing decisions as they are about good play. You need all 3 to go your way at some point. We can definitely beat anyone in this league.

If the league ended today for COVID (it won't) we'd be in the playoffs on PPG.
