Re: 50 Points for Stags to Stay Up ?

Postby MTFCMusings » Mon Oct 11, 2021 8:06 pm

As with James Clerke, I think we need to be careful not to put too much pressure on Ward. He played very well when he came on. But at that stage Oldham had pretty much surrendered possession and were content to defend their point, so he could get on the ball easily and try and dictate play. He’s seen this start though and it will be interesting to see how he does from the beginning of a game.

Current Table

PLD..W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.12...2...4...6....10....0.83

Required for 50 Points

PLD..W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.34..13...1..20...40...1.18
.34..12...4..18...40...1.18
.34..11...7..16...40...1.18
.34..10..10.14...40...1.18
.34...9...13.12...40...1.18
.34...8...16.10...40...1.18
.34...7...19..8....40...1.18

Stags current PPG 0.83 over a season would be a potential relegation total of 38 points.

In 2008 Stags were relegated with 42 points.

Southend were relegated last season with 45 points.

After 12 games

2019/20 13 points Dempster
2020/21 10 points (Coughlan was sacked after 9 games, with 5 points)
2021/22 10 points Clough (Clough's last 9 games is 3 points  )

The last Stags manager to go 10 league games without a win was Paul Cox 2013/14 season (13 games).

I hope Nigel Clough can turnaround Stags results, but with EFL status at risk it needs to be sooner rather than later.

Wish I hadn't of read that
I had to check only 3points in 9 games and after 4 tries I couldn't find more.

I've got Bolton at the back of my mind to keep me hopeful.

We will not be doing a Bloton. We can't even score a goal atm... even against sides below us.

what gets me, is that despite different players and managers we’ve gone on one of runs similar to this pretty much every season since we came back up.

From what run under cox the 1st season, the run under flitcroft from february when it was practically
impossible not to get promoted but somehow managed it, the start last season, this run now.

It’s crazy

I am bud. These last three seasons seem like a recurring nightmare. We've struggled to rid ourselves of this malaise. Every season we dangle over the pit makes it a forgone conclusion that eventually we'll lose our grip and be up to our neck in it.

Makes you wonder what Flitcroft and Evans were doing differently with a similar budget.

Experience of this league. That's the only difference I can see.

.33...8...15.10...39...1.18
.33...7...18..8....39...1.18

Stags current PPG 0.92 over a season would be a potential relegation total of 42 points.

Very good performance v Port Vale, deserved a win, best home game since 1st game of the season.

Stags not won in 11 games, Exeter not lost in 11 games, so nailed on Stags win :D

Same points as last season.

Two really good home performances v Port Vale & Tranmere, hopefully sustain the standards and start climbing the league table.

Last season the next 10 league games were, Won 5, Drawn 4, Lost 1.

Got to be targeting 15 points from our next 8 games if we're to have any realistic hopes of challenging for playoffs.

Only Forest Green and Harrogate are in the top 7 from our next 8 games until the New Year.

We've already played Harrogate. We've still to play Sutton 8th and hartlepool 10th

Apologies. I was counting only until the half way point of the season. So the next 8 see us play 1st, 5th, 8th and 10th as well as 4 teams below us. I would think 15 points would be a good return

Well, well, well, after 5 consecutive wins, 3 in the league, (and 6 bottles of Marstons Pedigree) I've changed the thread title back to it's original "Can Stags make the Play-Offs"

Estimated 71 points required for the Play-Offs

Current Table

PLD..W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.17...5...5...7....20....1.18

Required for 71 Points

PLD..W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.29..17...0..12...51...1.76
.29..16...3..10...51...1.76
.29..15...6...8....51...1.76
.29..14...9...6....51...1.76
.29..13..12..4....51...1.76

Stags current PPG 1.18 over a season would total of 54 points.

Stags would need to have a PPG of 1.76 for the rest of the season to reach the Play-Offs, which is usually Top 3 form.

Stags are 7 points from the relegation zone and only 6 points from the Play-Offs.

I'm hoping I don't have to change the title thread again.

If we can win home games and avoid defeat in most away games, we'll make the playoffs. It's doable.
