Everyone seems to be forgetting the forthcoming fixtures of 5 out of 7 games away, most of them against tough rival opposition. We've done brilliantly but had the benefit of a home weighted period....let's hold our breaths and see where we are at the end of February

The game against FGR will be a good marker.

Shame it's midweek.

Think you may need to alter playoffs for automatics in the title ;)

Has to be said , it's going to be long cold miserable season. If we finish 22nd it's a result.

Just reading back some comments in this thread from earlier in the season.

What a turnaround!

What a turnaround!

I was saying this to my dad yesterday, after watching us at Walsall away (and other away games) I can’t actually believe that was the same squad. The turnaround has been unbelievable but when you think back to games like Northampton, it didn’t seem possible at the time.

I’ll be the first to hold my hand up though, I was wrong!

Indeed. If we are still in the position by the end of February, it could end up being a great season.

Good point there vinnie. Just been checking weve played 15 home 9 away. We have the 2nd best home form, but the 3rd worst away. Next few away games pivotal

The stat is true but it’s only based on points gained. Having played so few away we are bound to be near the bottom.

We will rocket up that table if we can keep the number of defeats down to a couple and add a few wins and draws during the run of away games.

That’s not logical. We are sixteenth in the form table on away games. If we had the same away as home form, we’d be above FGR.

Obviously we haven’t had a table posted so we may be talking at odd purposes. The ones I’ve seen (where we are 3rd from bottom) are a straight table based on points gained. We have only played 9 away games so far and are being measured against teams who have played several more games away (as many as 5 more). When we have played our extra games and comparisons are equal, I doubt we will be 3rd bottom. If you’ve seen a table where we are 16th as you state, can I suggest that is based on percentage points gained per game as opposed to a straight points table.

Is that logical? It would certainly seem to fit with the original post that we are 3rd bottom.

We have 8 points from 9 away games 0.89 ppg

Puts us 6th worst ahead of Hartlepool 4/12 0.33 ppg, Stevenage 6/12 0.5 ppg, Scunthorpe 9/14 0.64 ppg,
Oldham & Colchester 10/12 0.83 ppg.

So 19th as opposed to 16th or 22nd depending on how it’s been worked out above. This is obviously the most accurate way of calculating the situation and I have no doubt our position will improve as we catch away games up.

It’s probably worth pointing out that our recent upsurge in form has included relatively few away games, and our “away form” is tainted by our early season stats. (Which were poor)

Will be interesting to see where we are in a months time.

To get a true accurate reflection you'd have to look at what sides we played, what their respective home forms were before and their overall form. To get a true weighted ppg.

But that's too much effort on a Sunday.

The Sunderland and Donny Cup games are enough to suggest our away form during this run has been just as good as home form. You can only win the games you're in, and (albeit in all comps) we've done that.

Forest Green will be tough, but are they better than Sunderland? No. There's no reason we can't go there and get something.

It's a bit of an unknown quantity really due to the lack of recent away games. On current form (last 6 games) away from home we are on 7 points from 6 games, putting us 16th, but top of that table are Crawley on 11, and FGR and Northampton on 10, so not miles off the pace points wise, and that takes us right back to Orient in September. Since our 'run' started we have won 2 out of 3 away games so have a ppg of 2. Throw in the FA Cup games and it is the equivalent of a ppg of 2.4.
Tuesday is going to be a tough game without a doubt, but I think we will be able to judge our 'away form' a bit better after the next 3 away games.

After Stags record breaking 8 consecutive wins it would be disappointing not to finish at least in the Play-Offs, so I'm changing the title to "Can Stags finish in the TOP 3"

Estimated 81 points required for the Top 3

Current Table

PLD..W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.26..13...5...8....44....1.69

Required for 81 Points

PLD..W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.20..12...1...7....37...1.85
.20..11...4...5....37...1.85
.20..10...7...3....37...1.85
.20...9...10..1....37...1.85

Stags current PPG 1.69 over a season would total of 78 points.

Current Form Table (12 games)
POS.......................W...D...L...PTS
1st Stags..............11...0...1....33
2nd Forest Green....8...4...0....28
3rd Tranmere.........8...2...2....26

Stags amazing turnaround in league form continues, winning 11 out of 12 games, 33 points from a possible 36.

Stags have bizarrely played 6 more home games than away games, to even this out 9 of the next 12 games are away.
