I'd definitely have him in Quinn's spot. Hope he can nail it down too

Duh.

Hardly duh.

Bobby made it sound like "nailing down" that spot meant long term. Not just the 3 games Quinn is out for.

I'd prefer Ty in a more advanced role.

Sinclair could play in behind Hawkins/Johnson too I guess, Lapslie hasn't done much in the games I've seen him but it is a long season and we know what Lapslie can do from last season.

Who would you play on the left instead of Quinn Broomo?

Tough one to call. Macca is arguably our best player so far this season and we need to get him the ball.

Ty is more likely to want to keep the ball and cut inside than he is to give and go.

For me Jordan is the most natural choice if he could show the kind of workrate he put in last season.

I think Nige might go with a more natural midfielder so possibly Ward or Law.

It would be tough on Sinclair as Nige typically goes with a next in line policy and Ty has shown he's trying his balls off.

You can be sure he told whoever played tonight that there are shirts up for grabs, so those who put a shift in have a chance.

I think we might pull Oates one back, play Lapslie central in Clarkes role and restore Johnson up top. Which would mean Ty having to settle for a place on the bench again.

Lots of options, none of them perfect and NC will probably surprise us all and frustrate a few.

We need a result badly. If that means going more solid, I'm up for that.

How come? I think he’s looked pretty decent in the games he’s come on in. Keeps the ball quite well.

Not a deal difference on average age of squads. Take Browery (who didn't score...again) out and it's almost even. Total age for starting 11s, Stags 216 Sunderland 234

When you count up league appearances then the Stags team was vastly superior.

At times last night it was men against boys in attitude and physical ability.

The Stags team played very well but against a vastly different team than last Tuesday’s opponents.

Generally players play to their same abilities each game, it just looks different as the opposition’s quality is different in each game.

Does this situation strike a balance for some of the posts we’ve had on her in the last week?

Some were saying our squad had no depth after last Tuesday and how bad we must be when a ‘pub team’ could totally outclass us. Yet here we are having played one of the biggest league one team’s under 23’s saying we were miles in front and it was men against boys.

Puts a bit of perspective on it don’t you think?

A comfortable win for Stags U23s with two first half goals from corners by Nathan Caine and Jason Law. Nathan Caine then crossed for Tyrese Sinclair to make it 3-0. It was essentially the same Stags team that played against Harrogate Town in the EFL Trophy last Tuesday (8 starters and 2 subs Caine/Cooper). Ryan Stirk also returned from Covid.

Tyrese Sinclair and Jason Law played well. Probably Jason Law's best game this season. Tyrese should have scored a couple more goals. Another 90 minutes for Jordan Bowery and Harry Charsley. George Cooper and Keaton Ward were solid in defence. Keaton Ward did not give the ball away as much as last Tuesday and sensibly smashed it away when required. I like it when he brings the ball out of defence but he then tends to make a bad pass. He should keep trying to develop this part of his game though. Ryan Burke made one great crossfield pass in the 2nd half. James Clarke made a good run into the area in the 1st half and should have shot first time similar to Kellan Gordon on Saturday.

George Shelvey
James Clarke (Taylor Anderson), George Cooper (James Deakin*)?, Keaton Ward, Ryan Burke
Harry Charsley, Ryan Stirk, Jason Law,
Nathan Caine (James Gale), Jordan Bowery, Tyrese Sinclair

Saying that Sinclair played well seems unnecessary. That's all he knows. Hopefully Clough will now recognise that he deserves a regular first team place.
