I see yesterday we won 1.9xG to 1.2xG. at Swindon

XG is saying we should have a 2-3-0 record instead of the 2-1-2 record.
Those accustomed to privilege may feel that equality is oppression.

This is showing our attacking play only. It's showing our opponents attacking too. The fact their xG is worse than ours and come away with more points indicates a poor defence. Adjust for defensive mistakes (not picking up their man or sticking with them) paints the season in a better picture. Those mistakes are happening and until we can cut them out from happening every game then we will keep getting bad results.

Just looking through our defensive numbers, and they're not really that alarming on the face of it.

Shots faced per game - 9.2 (3rd lowest)
Tackles made per game - 16.7 (4th highest)
Interceptions per game - 12.2 (1st)
Fouls per game - 13.2 (4th highest)
Goals conceded from set pieces - 4 (1st)

At the other end

Shots taken per game - 14.5 (=2nd most)
on target per game - 3.7 (=11th)
dribbles per game - 3.8 (22nd)
crosser per game - 25 (2nd)
long balls per game - 71 (22nd)

I’m pleased to see we are way down on the dribbling list (County fans are surely top?)

It indicates we pass our way forward rather than taking men on. Although dribbling can be exciting to watch, it’s also one of the quickest ways of losing the ball, often in vulnerable positions.

Its not alarming? Were the worst at defending set pieces and face the 3rd least number of shots. And conceded the joint most amount of goals (10). If anyone is wondering Oldham have conceded 10 goals as well.

That's quite alarming. We don't face many shots, but when we do they go in. This could change with the returns of Forrester and Perch.

We are 7.6666 into the season. Carry on and we will concede 70 goals at the current rate. For comparison last season Oldham conceded 81 and finished 18th.

Until an improvement is seen on the pitch and in results then it will remain a concern.

That just shows that we're on the end of some variance at the moment. In general, the less shots you face, the less likely you are to conceded. The quality of chances we are giving away is pretty middle of the road.

The set piece stats are of course a problem, acknowledged by the manager who is taking steps to try and change this.

If you're making a higher than average amount of tackles/interceptions it shows we are a busy defence and we have conceded the most goals shows we are leaky.

It could just be "gel" time. Or a difficult opening period. Or a mix and we will start a run of wins and/or clean sheets. "judge after 5 games" is a trope, and after 6 we aren't looking good Defensively. We are joint 6th with narrow on goals scored. They're 9th at the moment, only conceded 6 goals though.

It is still too early really but the early signs aren't good.

Not necessarily. We have the best pressing numbers in the league, so these tackles and interceptions are being made high up the pitch. This will obviously inflate tackling and interception numbers.

I wasn't sure whether it counted further up or if it was a in our own half kind of thing.

Nathan Bishop has conceded 99 goals in his 48 professional games.

He actually looks a decent keeper so given the defences he’s played behind it probably could’ve been another 50 on top of that!

I don't get the assist for winning a penalty? Its nit an assist. Neither can you assist yourself for a slide tackle?

What's the thinking behind that? I've been bemused by it for a while.

Also what's with "involved in the build up". What constitutes "build up" the pervious x amount of passes? What if we have a 25 pass streak, score but involves 5 players, do they all get 5 points each?
