Good thread this.

Based upon the squad churn data - there is no refuting that this is Cloughies squad!

I hope that little dig at those of us who think your stats are bull, to keep our criticism of them out of your thread, means you will be keeping your bull stats out of other threads. ;)

Fans that have half a football brain and aren’t thick enjoy seeing stats and analytics though, or at least don’t bemoan them every time you see them because they can’t comprehend anything new.

Put them in any thread where it’s suitable.

The thing is that the squad churn data alone would suggest that this isn't his squad yet - if 2 out of every 3 minutes last year were played by players still at the club. I'd imagine Reid, Sweeney and Stone were a big chunk of the remaining 22%, and Clough said that he'd like to have kept Reid. Of the line up that started v Coventry, 6 out of the starting 11 (might have been 7 if Gordon was fit), and 4 out of the 7 on the bench were here before Clough. This all suggests that NC was fairly happy with the basis of the squad he inherited, he just needed to bolster a few positions and then coach them to play - which I think was the conclusion we all had about Coughlan's team.

However someone can accuse others of arrogance when you are going out of your way to spoil other users experience of the forum is beyond me.

P.s. What happened the board rules around abusive language?

Sorry Musings, having just said about using the wink emoji, I missed putting another after gnomes which was meant to lighten the mood of that one.

I didn't start the abuse, I made a light hearted reply to my friend and got accused of having half a brain and being thick for that crime.

It’s well documented that most, if not all all professional football clubs use advanced analytics and data. It would be prudent to therefore believe that they do have a place in football and do offer value (even if you at first find them difficult to understand), despite what certain fans who have no football background or comprehension like to believe.

Although I do believe stats have a limited place in football, just because someone builds an empire doesn’t mean that empire isn’t built on sand.

The problem with the system is that it is not an exact science and scores are based on varying opinions depending who is judging the proceedings. Because of this fact, the system is basically flawed but can give a general overview. Of course the only stat that matters is which team score the most goals and the rest could be considered window dressing with no direct impact on the game’s result.
