He was on talkSPORT midweek saying he’s looking for another club. Reckons he’s 4 weeks from match fitness due to having no pre season.

Not played much football last 3 years though.

Obviously a local lad but he’s 37 and not played a game for over a year, and always suffered with injuries. Surely this would be a big risk?

All depends how the contract is structured.

Ya don't need pace in League 2 as a defender.
He'd be a great signing if he's fit.
These are my opinions , if you don't like them I have others...

Could be a great influence. Just needs to be still good and fit enough.

Good signing if he plays.

Huddelstone not played or trained with a club for over a year now on trial/ training and playing for hull and he's been doing the business.

The experience Dawson has would be great at our level. Get him fit and get him in

As Yorkstags says, it depends on the contract. If Dawson wants to get fit, he would be great cover. Then, if he gets fit, he will challenge for a place in the team which is what Nigel said he wanted. If he's realistic about wages, then even at 37/38 he would be a very good signing. As always, we can trust Nigel to do the sensible thing.

Surely not, saw him play at the One Call a couple of seasons ago for Bury and he was past it then?

Correction, sorry my mistake, wrong Dawson.

We could do a lot better.

Maybe wait until the Premier League has sorted their squads and get a loan signing in.

We already have sufficient experience in the squad.

He would really have to prove his fitness before I signed him. League 2 can be brutally competitive and players can make up for a lack of skill with brawn.

That said Michael would bring additional know how to the squad and would be a perfect mentor for the youngsters. He also must have loads of contacts which could open a few doors. He may also be looking to get into coaching/management.

I can’t see him playing a full season but maybe we will just be looking for a steady ship during the rough times.

A ‘only pay when play’ contract might be best for the Stags

Nobody will ever win anything with two central defenders well into their 30’s .

Dawson 37 played most of his career at the top level of English football , released by forest in july 2021, could he come to Mansfield town, he could be of value giving his experience and cover, to our back 4, certainly Clough has signed some players who have had bad injuries, i know he does not give contracts to players they have to earn them.
Good rumour on a quite weekend.

Another Jake Wright....remember the quote when NC was being asked about the signing...He's not just here to warm the bench...and that's exactly what he did
