That aside, sounds like a decent performance from the Twitter updates.

How did the new players do? We're yet to really welcome last season's signings to Field Mill yet.

Walker got a very good ovation from Stags supporters when he left the field after being substituted.

What a great pre-season game that was. Very very good performance. Also all the subs that came on looked just as good as the players they replaced. What a midfield we have! Only positives from tonights performance.

How were the new signings? Especially the forwards?

Linked up well
Hawkins will win most things played up to him and is very good into feet also

Johnson looks like a typical finisher finds space in the box and looks intelligent on and off the ball

What is very evident is both want the ball into feet and won’t run past many players, I guess Oates, and possibly Lapslie will have to provide that threat

We looked inventive from set-pieces especially corners

True, but compare & contrast the last 2 games with the games v Rotherham, Man C u23 & PNE at a similar stage of the last pre season. Not just the results but the level of performance. It's light years ahead of last season.

Yep, not even comparable, even more impressive was how we maintained control after the changes. Our midfield is so good, on and off the ball, the calmness in possession and then hunting down out of possession is something we've not seen from a Stags midfield in a very long time. I'm trying to keep a lid on my optimism, but struggling.

It was fantastic to be back!

I thought the game got a bit messy after both sides made changes, but everything else you've said is spor on. The midfield look like they're benefiting from playing together last season, its not just a whole new unit like you so often get. Very confident and polished. We played good solid football, on the deck, got plenty of crosses in, defended well and worked really hard for a friendly.

I'm not even going to try and keep a lid on it. If the strikers can convert the chances this team could be right up there. Certainly the most positive I've felt pre season for a while. It was great to finally be able to clap the gaffer.

Yes I think the game did get messy, my point was (probably badly worded) that even with the changes we were still the better side. That was almost as good as the Sunderland pre-season game in 2001, which is the best pre-season Stags performance I've ever seen.

At the end of that piece, "City take on Norwich City tomorrow evening at Chesterfield’s Technique Stadium."

The autocorrect on Coventry's website is gone awry, it's corrected "Tesco".

A terrific performance but we’ve been here before in pre-season so I’m trying not to get carried away.

One thing that did occur to me, it’s hard to overestimate the importance of Mez and the ground staff this season. Last night showed how well this side can pass the ball on a good surface and though it’s unreasonable to expect it to be in that nick all season, hopefully it will stand up better than last year.

Anyone up for a game of guess the word/phrase they missed out?

I guess "age" in "Robins rang the changes with an average of 19 heading into the final 20 minutes"

I'm stumped on this bit though. “The diamond they play was and they play some decent football"

Anyone have any idea?

I must admit, I've been a vocal critic of Stephen McLaughlin... but credit where it's due. Last night he was immense.

I hope he proves me wrong all season!

I said to Part Time Pete Pete last night that there were two former Daggers players on the pitch who were playing well - Jodi Jones (Coventry City) and Oli Hawkins. Pete asked whether they had both played against the Stags in the same team. Just checked and they both played for Dagenham in the 3-2 home defeat in Feb 2016. Jodi Jones came on as a sub. Dagenham also had Coventry's Dominic Hyam, Joss Labadie; and Christian Doidge and Ashley Hemmings were on the bench.

O’Brien; Hyam, Dikamona, Worrall; Passley (Jones 79), Widdowson; Labadie, Muldoon (Richards 71), Chambers; McClure (Cureton 71), Hawkins. Subs not used: Cousins, Doidge, Hemmings, Hoyte.

Jodi Jones signed for Coventry in summer 2016 and has suffered some bad injuries. He's not started a league game for Coventry since November 2017 against Stevenage. He played against the Stags two games earlier when the Stags won 1-0 with Alex MacDonald's great goal.

It was a fairly inexperienced Coventry team last night but a good performance by the Stags. You can see we are trying to play at a quick tempo and pass the ball quickly which we successfully did with Billy Dearden/Stuart Watkiss' promotion side and DF's play off side. My only criticism last night was that we were very wasteful with our chances and probably ought to have scored 3 or 4 goals and put the game to bed much earlier.

Coventry's Championship Appearances 2020-2021
Ben Wilson (Keeper) 26(1)
Ben Sheaf 21(19)
Tyler Walker 20(11)
Julien Dacosta 10(8)
Will Bapaga 0(2)

Josh Reid, Declan Drysdale, Blaine Rowe, Aaron Evans-Harriott, Ryan Howley, Fabio Taveres and Harrison Nee are all listed as U23s.

I thought the big centre half played well for Coventry. He might have been a trialist (Rocky Bushiri).

Note: The Coventry trialists included Rocky Bushiri, a Belgian U21 international from Norwich City and Papa Souare who has played for Lille and Crystal Palace.

I’m pretty sure Drysdale was on loan at Cambridge last season.
