I am Spartacus wrote:I think Bishop, based upon the great showing by Shelvey yesterday, may be ‘arriving late to the party’. When Shelvey pulled off the marvellous double save yesterday even the Hull keeper applauded him, public displays of professional respect speaks volumes. Shelvey is a very confident, capable young keeper with great distribution and does without the need to scream at his back line.

I for one, if he keeps performing as he is, would be happy for him to be in goal for the opening fixture against Bristol Rovers.

Totally agree with that Sparky. The man had a terrific game and inspired confidence in the defence. I certainly wouldn’t drop him and would expect Bishop to earn the jumper instead of just being handed it.

I can’t remember the last time I saw a better display from a stags keeper. I wouldn’t expect him to keep that up but he has set his own standard and I’m really pleased he’s here.

Hopefully the CEO is not daft enough to contractually allow a loan player to develop at the expense of his employers team?

I don’t think United will send a player out to sit on the bench. I bet he starts.

Clough said hes number one. Shelvey is here to push him and grab the number 1 shirt off him, and if that's his job here hes certainly capable and Nigel will play the one who deserves it.

And that’s good that we’ve got two well motivated and talented young keepers pushing each other.

Should be that if you're found wanting between the sticks and put the flutters in the rest of the team like Stech did you shold be benched.
Confidence in the custodian is a massive part of a teams well being.
Bishop could well be Banks class, but if Shelvey's done all pre season with the team they will have meshed together better and will know his pros and cons.
The season opener for me isn't a game to give someone who's not done PS with the team a debut.
Our hopes and aspirations for the season should override any stipulation from Utd.

To ease Bishop in for me he should play the PNE game.
Best then should then be the one to keep the gloves. Any drop off in performace should see the other get his chance. Being 'guaranteed' to play breeds a player that lacks that little bit extra.

He wont be guaranteed to play as such. Only the club would know what has been promised.

Most likely is we've told Utd that the shirt is Bishop's to lose and told forest that the shirt is Shelvey's to take.

If Bishop can't keep hold of the shirt then man utd have a decision to make. Recall him in January and send him somewhere else or tell him to knuckle down and get that shirt back.

Like Gazza said I cant believe we could or would contract for him to play every week as if he was playing badly we'd want him to be out of the team.
More likely there is an informal agreement that he'll get game time and presumably if he doesn't they have the option to take him back in January (or we'd send him back). Anyway it's good to have what sounds like two decent keepers fighting for the spot when in the last couple of years we've struggled to get someone consistent.

I don’t think this will make much difference as it’s only a short term absence.

Wouldn't be allowed to be recalled before January 1st is my understanding.

Do they want marek Stech on loan?

I can't see them wanting him back even if they could, he's been told he's number 1 here. I highly doubt man utd would deny him that opportunity to get valuable competitive games at professional level just to sit on the bench or by on standby to sit on the bench at united.

Especially when they already have De Gea, Heaton and Grant.
