I wasn't a fan of his to start with, but like Rawson he has had an excellent end to the season and deserves the extension.

Yep agreed. And he can play in different positions which is always good to have in the squad.

I don’t mind that.

He’s capable of filling in at Left back, centre mid, and left wing if need be and doing a job. I think it’s accepted that he won’t be first choice, and utility players are useful for the squad.

When accepting that we need a new left back bringing in to the club to start, it makes more sense to keep McLaughlin than Benning for example so I can see the thought process.

I honestly don’t see why we’ve extended it, I just don’t see what he offers in the system that Clough plays but he obviously disagrees!

Agree with most of what has already been said. Slow start, but has improved and developed a good partnership down the left. I still think we'll sign a 'natural' left back, but he's a good body to have in the squad and is decent from dead ball situations (or less terrible than others in the squad  )

I think he has had some good spells at left back and also left midfield. However I don’t think he has been consistently good enough for a regular starter in a promotion winning side. He is a good squad player and the type that you need to cover a number of positions for short term injury. Worth a contract but don’t think he will be first choice. If I am wrong and he is to be first choice left back, we should have kept Benning instead.

Adds more experience and a good character to have around the younger lads and can play multiple positions, hes done well lately and might not be guaranteed to start.

Good addition

Liked him from the start - remember his goal at Newport? Better defender and going forward than Benning and will take on the opposition with better delivery than Benning.

Not generally overwhelmed by this. I expect he's value for money because he's versatile down the left hand side which frees up money for better players in more key areas.

He can strike a ball, and you never know, some of these players may become much better playing in a better team.

He's a decent squad player who can cover down the left when left sided players aren't that common,

McLaughlin is a good signing. He covers 3 or 4 positions, like Perch.

Always good to have experienced players in the utility man roles in the team, their experience in general is enough to see put games. Younger players with not as much experience in men's football in general can be found wanting (case in point Gordon at right back. Can do a decent job, but when exposed or found wanting it can go pear shaped.

I would be concerned if he was our main left back.
