Interesting that he say business done on existing players in terms of new contract. So that means no new deals for :

Stone
Sweeney
Clarke
Wright
Walker
McLaughlin
Ward
Cook
Maynard

Unless some have just not been announced yet?

Are they all out of contract this summer? I thought some were on 2 year deals.

Yes I think so, all those players are contracted until the end of the season.

We've done quite a few contracts in the last few months for those who are going to be around.

Perch is done. That's not "quite a few". Gordon and Charsley signed deals but again that's 3 and not what would personally call "quite a few"

Maybe negotiations are ongoing.

Maybe Sweeney has redeemed himself and Clough wants him as an option. I'd expect us to want to retain stone, if Clough goes with 3 keepers then he's a reliable option. Clarke depends on what Clough has seen in training and how he performs in game time, should he get any.

McLaughlin has done fairly well at left back when called upon and in midfield. The only issue is he's a winger by trade and we don't play with conventional wingers.

We will have to wait for any further news.

Maybe I jumped the gun a little but you missed Law and Sinclair too. That’s 5 new contracts, which I would say is quite a few. Not to mention we already have 15ish players contracted for next season.

Sinclair and law won't be on too much money so are perhaps worth the risk or included as the youngsters Clough keeps around the first team. Maybe Charles too, another missing from the list. Until we see the full retained list it's just speculation at this point.

It’s easy to forget Sinclair and Law are 21 and 22. Really depends how you define youngsters.

Although contracted you could see Menayese O’Keefe and O’Driscoll moving on.

Must be a very stressful time to be a lge2 footballer

If Menayese and O'Keefe do leave I'm sure we'll get a fee for them

Just listened to the iFollow interview. Mentioned Benning won’t feature in final games to guard against injury. Line ups therefore may give us some clues to those whose new contracts may still to be announced.

I’d like to keep McLaughlin if we can. I think he’s been solid for us this season and he can slot in at a few different positions when required - steady utility players like that are important for squad balance, and helps to keep the number of players we need down a bit.

I’d happily let go of all the other players on this list.

Does anyone think Clough/Sharpe may slightly regret giving Gordon and Charsley their new deals? Both have been out of the reckoning lately due to poor form. Charsley, namely, I think may struggle to get a look in next season. We’ve got four far better centre midfielders than him, I’d say five if McLaughlin were to stay despite him not being a true centre mid himself. Law is very similar to Charsley, and is two years younger - probably not room for both of them. We’ll also sign better wide forwards this summer meaning Charsley will be far down the pecking order in that position too.

Unless he was having a senior moment, Clough didn’t mention Macca when mentioning how happy he was with his midfield options, but I suppose he could be classing him as a defender. I tho think he’s a useful option.

I don’t think they’ll regret the new deals yet. The two you mention undoubtedly have endured a poor run of form but have both had spells where they have made good contributions. That will be needed through the course of a whole season.

If they're under contract then yes. Unless there's a mutual agreement to cancel their contracts

I agree - In retrospect it was a mistake giving them new deals. I just don't see where they will fit in next season: Gordon, whilst ok going forward is a huge liability in defence and Charlsley is likely to be way down the pecking order. I trust Cloughies judgement and hopefully he can coach them to be better, but given those players loss of form and subsequent dropping from the team, there may well be one or two regrets.

So who are the 12 or 14 players he keeps from the current squad?

Gordon, Sweeney, Rawson, Perch, Riley?,
Charlsie, Lapslie, Clarke, Quinn, ? ?
Bowery Sinclair,

Would imagine Reid and a couple more loaned out.

Feels like 6 out of the 8 will be starters from day one.

I reckon all of the above will go, possibly excluding Stone.

I think we’ll also move on O’Keefe, Stech and Reid.

Feels like we've been having a mass clear out every summer now, apart from when Dempster took over from Flitcroft

And Macca meyanese stone, a squad of 22 needs 3 more in my list, I'm sure Clough knows who they are but he might not get the 8 he wants, so more could be staying. It's going to be very interesting.

O'keefe must have a club lined up, a club came close to getting him on loan in January so maybe who ever it was have sorted it now on loan or for a fee.

Were him and rollin given two year deals??!

Somewhat of a rumour but Stech and Stone may both be going
