Can Stags make the Play-Offs

Postby KirkbyStag2 » Sun Feb 14, 2021 5:57 pm

Usually 71 points gets you in the Play-Offs (although Stags had 72 points in 2017/18 and missed out finishing 8th)

Required for 71 points

PLD...W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.20...12...1...7....37...1.85
.20...11...4...5....37...1.85
.20...10...7...3....37...1.85
.20....9...10..1....37...1.85

Points Per Game required is 1.85.

Nigel Clough's Stags record, starting at FGR away,

PLD...W...D...L...PTS...PPG
.15....7...6...2....27.....1.8 (PPG was 1.93 until Colchester's equaliser)

It's a big ask as a PPG of 1.85 is Top 3 form, but you never know :D

I don’t think we will need71 points this year as the league is very even. I think 69 or possibly even as low as 68 will get us there this year.

The bottom half teams are picking up more points so the top seven won’t get as many as a result.

Currently 8 points off with 20 games left to play. Why on earth not?

The way we have been grinding out results lately I think the middle two are achievable.

71 points from 46 games is a PPG of 1.54.

All the top 9 teams currently have a higher PPG than 1.54, so we will need teams to drop their current PPG.

If all the top 7 teams finished the season with their current PPG, we would need 75 points for 7th.

I will be happy to finish where we are now to be honest. Start of Decemeber, we were completely doomed.

Yep I'd be happy mid table, but we dream don't we.
In early Oct I'd have snapped your hand off for 22nd come May we were so poor.

Lets see how the next 6 games unravel to give us a clearer picture.

It is great we are talking in these terms .

I am just thankful this season when NC came in, got us getting results again , because the mess we where in , i thought it could become mission impossible for him .

NC

It’s great to even be considering the playoffs. We have gone from expecting to be beaten every week to being disappointed not to win every week, which is great.

Of course we can reach the playoffs, but if we don’t then I’ll still feel content with the season overall

Considering pre Clough we were nailed on relegation, pleased anywhere but the pit of misery

Possible but 8 is a lot to catch up and we just dropped 4 points but with Nigel running things hopeful of course !!

Like most on here, I'm just happy the threat of relegation appears to be gone. NC has a real good chance to see what he has and what he needs in the summer. Anything else would be a bonus, but I expect us to finish mid table.

It is possible, but feel the postponed games have hindered us a lot. Lost momentum and have fixture congestion with a pretty small squad. Always nice to dream though! To be honest, who wants to go up with no fans in grounds though? Save it for next year when we are all (hopefully) back.

Of course we can make the play offs ,in fact i will be dissapointed if we dont ,we are still on an unbeaten run after two tough away games ,the players training will im sure be adjusted to suit the fixtures ahead ,and before anyone says we are expecting too much ,its just that i feel we are better than a hell of a lot of teams in this division and if we dont do it i wont be laying any blame at anyones door

Play off i think is a bridge to far, not the quality to make up for our poor start, but a chance to see the team take shape for a promotion push next season.
Keeping our best players is key, and a budget that allows us to get the quality required, Clough will not throw money at players but a full season gives time for the team to gel

We have our best midfield for many a year , reid is starting to show his potential ,and bowery is proving his worth sarkic will soon be fit and our defence is more than capable as a rule i cant see a lack of quality personally
