Did GC recruit better players but got his management style and tactics all wrong?

It’s a mixture of things but these players clearly have ability. On a basic level the team looks so much more suited to 4 at the back but GC stubbornly would not budge from playing 3 centre halves. I think the way we set up last night the only option was to attack whereas you could say the opposite under GC.

There’s heresay that training was repetitive and players didn’t quite like his methods which perhaps stifled the attacking play and heads dropped. I do think GC was very unlucky not to win some games, only towards the end did we look absolutely terrible.

With a few additions we can really push on with this squad. We have Clarke, Perch and Maynard to come back to full fitness. If you add a few new faces in there we suddenly look a very strong side.

That could have been an interview from his time at County. I’ll be surprised to see him start next season at Oldham and he may be gone by Easter if the home form doesn’t pick up.

Poor manager living off his reputation as a player. If he wasn't a known name he wouldn't keep getting these jobs.

There are many top ex players who have failed at management.Would any player want Roy Keane as their manager?

Was Kewell at the game?
We didn’t go long, we outbattled them in midfield , that’s the biggest pile of drivel I’ve read

Hope he keeps Stone in. Yes it was an error for the first goal and we've all blamed Stech for similar, but as Stech has had, he deserves more than 1 chance. The save from Rowe was superb.
As far as Clarke and Perch are concerned, I still think they need to play if fit, but who to drop will be down to Nigel.
I think he will put Perch on the bench and play Clarke, particularly against Carlisle, which will mean one of the 3 up top dropping out.

Corner comes in and it's hit over the bar. Sweeney under pressure and hits his leg over the bar.

We are 4-2-3-1.

Back 4 as we know. Maris and Charsley in front on them. Reid lapslie and Bowery (that's right to left) and Cook in front of them.

So is Sweens playing on one leg now?

It was an error by Stone but he's playing his first game in weeks. Made a match winning save late on.

I can confirm that Sweeney has recovered from a missing leg. Before rumours spread he's leaving after being spotted with 2 legs still.

The difference is confidence and inches. If we’d turned three of those drawn games into wins, we’d be in the play offs. Fine margins.

Taken from the Oldham fans web site ...Thought it summed up the game well .......

It's a classic in the sense that Mansfield have thrown one in, hit a free-kick over the Chaddy, put a penalty wide and tried to score an own goal, but are still handing our arses to us..

Watching that Reid goal again. I'm well impressed. Battled for a loose ball and got his rewards with an excellent finish under pressure

I don't think anyone mentioned the sub ref, who I thought had a very good game.

What a feeling 9 points from drop zone, and it seems a nice long rest with Carlisle suffering from covid, time for new players and a reflection of where we are, 1-5 was a more reflective score line, not 2=3 leaving fans biting their finger nails, having said that winning a game were the goalkeeper drops a clanger, and a penalty missed shows character within the squad.
Cook had a good game, and Stone made a impact with a magnificent save at 2-3 when it gave us 3 points, Reid, Clough happy with what he does me like a lot think he is out of his depth But scored a clinical goal made it and put it away, also got man of the match, as normal Clough proves me wrong , having said that what a leap of faith Clough shows to his players.
A brilliant 3 points, F_A cup forgot already.

Then we would have NINE if that was the case.
If you have got NINE then surely you would not lack confidence ?

January-February 2017. Cambridge United (A) 3-1, Leyton Orient (H) 2-0, Barnet (A) 2-0 and Hartlepool (H) 4-0.

Before that, there was a club record with 12 wins in a row in the marvellous NL 2012-13 season!
