A lot of the players that didn’t get kept on left with class & dignity, nice words for the club, fans & owner etc, however i don’t think i ever spotted anything from Davis, did i miss it?

I can't see anything on his Twitter, although I can't imagine he would say he had a great time at Mansfield because he was injured for about 95% of it

Given the amount of stick he got on social media from ‘fans’, it’s hardly surprising. Just because it’s the done thing at the moment with social media, a player shouldn’t feel obliged to do it. A lot of the time, players praising the fans etc. just feels false.

or it just shows a little bit of class to acknowledge the fact that an employer had been paying them an extremely good wage for little return, just a thought!

It's just a nothing thread this.

Why go on about a player not taking the time to thank a club and it's supporters when they have effectively been sacked.

He looked good for a few games, got injured, spent the next two seasons trying to get match fit. The club did him proud but that was their contractual duty.

Let him go, don't bad mouth him because those who do are not showing "class", a much overused word IMO.

Like Davis, we move on.

What did you do before twitter when a player was released? I don’t remember there being outrage at not hearing from a player then.

Ive not looked, but I’ve not seen anything mentioned from Olejnik, Preston or OSJ either, what haven’t you mentioned them? Two of those three spend a large time injured and/or playing very few games.

True story. Sometimes it’s better to say nothing than say something bad.

That’s what this site has become for me so I’ll be more reading than contributing going forward. Some of the stuff I’ve read is amazing.

Quite a private person it seems, hardly uses social or interacts with fans.

Would have been a great signing if he didn't get injured. That goal showed what he could do.

However frustrating it was from a Mansfield perspective both as a club and fans I bet it can’t come close to not being able to play when it’s all you know.

Must have been some dark days in there for him somewhere.

Especially when he was then getting stick from fans on social media.

Some fans moaned that he was stealing a wage, but he was under contract with us so why would he? People need to remember that it's his living, I doubt anyone here would quit their job if they were on long term sick, with no hopes or another job in the pipeline.

I've absolutely nothing against him. It's not like we needed him to leave to free up a wage. Our club is good, we look after our own players

He looked good before he injured his knee. Then I believe after he returned from that he did the other one. I'm sure I read at the time he'd not had any major injuries prior to those.

Think of it this way. Was Hayden White and Bobby Olejnik "stealing a wage" when they were injured long term?

That's football. You win some, you lose some. Some players have an injury and never don't look the same on the pitch. It's one of those things. Xander diamond and Paul Mirfin are another 2 who ended up injured for a good while.

It was his ankle I believe, rather thank his knee.

Who’s Paul Mirfin?

Don't write and talk to people at the same time

I was talking to a workmate named Paul about my knee problem whilst constructing that post.

Craig Davies' ankles not knee and I mean David Mirfin. Point still stands though.

A short clip of a Burnden Aces interview with Craig Davies giving his backing to Keith Hill and David Flitcroft (bad timing). He mentions that the Stags players liked Flitcroft a lot and they really missed him this season. They didn't know what they had until he had gone. The full podcast is being released on You Tube later today.

for anyone not able to watch the video, I've transcribed some bits of it:

Interview with Craig Davies on his time at Mansfield, and being released:
From Burnden Aces, 12 June 2020

“After maybe 7 or 8 weeks of being at Mansfield I started getting a twinge in my ankle at the back end of pre-season. It was quite niggly. Every other day it was getting worse and worse.

“Within the space of probably about two months I was just in constant pain

“And I was having to pull out of training.

“Then I went to see a specialist and the specialist said “you need to get an operation, this is serious.”

“I wanted to heal it naturally and I didn't want to go down the operation route. But then I realised that it was just not getting better and it was just getting worse and worse.

“Obviously I knew Dave Flitcroft well and I felt like I didn't want to let him down, I tried to play through it but I was just doing myself no justice, just looking shadow of myself and I just thought, come December, I can't do this anymore. Things I'd normally find so easy to do, I was struggling to do, and then day by day missing training and only training maybe once or twice a week, my fitness was just going downhill and obviously as you get older you need to stay on top of that.

“So we decided the operation was the best route. Dave (Flitcroft), the assistant Ben Futcher, and the physio at the time, Tom, they were really supportive of me.

“So I got the operation done and it just ended up being longer than I thought it was going to be. I got both ankles done because the specialist said the right one’s not as bad, but while you are rehabilitating your left one you could do your right one as well and that could save you in future. So I thought, you know what makes sense, so I've done them both.

“It just ended up being like a longer process than I thought.

“And then it come to probably about November (2019) when I joined back in training, which was tough because normally the longest I've been out before that was maybe two and a half months and it would take me six weeks to get back into the swing of things. So being out a year it was quite difficult to get back into the swing of things

“I felt I was getting back into a better routine around the beginning of February. But then the new manager at the time (Graham Coughlan) had his visions of what he wanted to do moving forward for the club.

“And then obviously the pandemic happened with the coronavirus, and the season finished, cutting short.

“I went in a couple of weeks ago and spoke to the manager and the manager just told me he's going to move in a different direction, which I understand. I mean I hadn't played a lot so it made sense.

“And to be fair I think I was so frustrated with just being injured a lot there that I needed something fresh in my own head as well to get me going again.”

On David Flitcroft at Mansfield:

“Last year, the boys liked Dave a lot. And I think this year they realised how much they missed him. Sometimes you don’t realise what you’ve got until it’s gone.”

"You don't realise what you've got until it's gone" seems to be a regular phrase with these interviews.

Who would have thought so many ex Stags players would be Joni Mitchell fans.
