They still have to pay them because they have a contract but they cannot play them and the salaries they pay them from now are not included in the salary cap. Peterborough did this with some of their players. Jason Naismith, Louis Reed, George Cooper and George Boyd were not included in Peterborough's squad at the start of the season and put on the transfer list.

It is also sending a message to the players concerned and their agents that they have no future at the club and so are better off agreeing a pay off or going out on loan.

David Flitcroft would probably have not included Paul Anderson and Zander Diamond in his 22 man squad of over 21 players if the salary cap had been in force.

Be interesting to see if the new Vale manager wants to play either of them.

They can be re-registered if another player moves on or is loaned out or is ruled out with a long term injury.

I bet there’ll be a few “long term injuries” to players who fall out of favour with the manager ;)

I’m pretty sure they can be re-registered at any time whilst the window is open can they not?

I think Joe Riley is out of the squad and therefore he is not included in the salary cap list.

Long term injury, it's that long I can't remember when or how.

Interesting

Someone could get a decent loan...
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

And this is where the salary cap is bad. If a club can afford a player of that calibre, then it is a restriction of trade to deny them the opportunity to get them in. The salary cap is a hammer to crack a nut.

Define "afford". Bury could afford to pay huge wages right up until the moment they couldn't.

And then there's the source of those finances. We'd be a piss poor team financially if we didn't have JR throwing in money as a sponsor.

Burton have signed a new keeper, could we be interested in one of the two they already had?

Any of our resident former Burton followers shed any light on one of the two that may now be available?

Of course.

But given we’ve signed one of their players and a lot of staff who used to be there, it’s right to keep an eye on them.

Sure. Afford means being able to pay for without going into an unsustainable financial position. A salary cap isn’t the answer, better diligence is. It’s football communism.

"Barrow have signed Tranmere midfielder Ollie Banks on a permanent deal and brought in Barnsley winger Dan Bramall and Bristol Rovers defender Tom Davies on loan until the end of the season. Banks, 28, had featured 19 times for Tranmere this campaign. Bramall, 22, joined the Tykes in September 2020 but has yet to make his debut for the Championship side. Davies, 28, was ruled out with a knee injury in February 2020 and has not appeared for Rovers since. The length of Banks' deal has not been disclosed by the club."

"Crawley Town have signed Leyton Orient winger Jordan Maguire-Drew on loan. The 23-year-old former Brighton youth player has moved to the Lamex Stadium on a deal until the end of the season."

"Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Nick Freeman has joined Leyton Orient on loan until the end of the season. Freeman, 25, has featured eight times for the Chairboys in all competitions this season and played in last season's League One play-off final."

There are two terms you have used in this thread.

Restriction of trade and Football communism?

I don’t understand what you mean, could you explain?
