To be fair that was two seasons ago, and at the time we were doing really well and thought we'd go on to get promotion so didn't need to sell.. in hindsight you'd have sold him for 750k if that was the money being offered

How?

I said we don’t need to recruit a mass of players with sell on value. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be any (we’ve already signed one).

There’s probably nothing in it, but Pearce has been training at our training ground today with a few other Stags players. He also seems to have been interviewed about his new coaching academy with Stevo at our training ground.

Maybe just a favour from the club/Stevo.

Given the millions the Radfords have pumped in over the last few years, for us still to be in the same league and had our worst campaign since we returned to the league, they probably want to see some sort of return on their investment.

They’ve spent the last three seasons trying to achieve that return via promotion to no reward. Therefore, they’re probably sick of sticking all their eggs in the promotion basket, and want the club to be more self sufficient by nurturing younger talent which could be sold on.

Yeah but that's their concern and from the signings so far, it's clear that's not something they are too interested in. You think the manager goes and spends money on whoever he wants without some sort of discussion about transfer strategy?

Where have I said that? I didn’t say anything about buying young players in the above post, I said nurturing young talent. If you read my other post further up, it’s clear that experienced players will be signed because the average of the players on the books is 23. We therefore already have plenty of players of a sellable age (if they’re good enough of course)

We need a striker of proven goals, some skills in midfield and a couple of double hard b*stards in defence.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

Anyone else heard Pearce wanting time train pre-season with us, could he win GC around?

Id like it to be true,

but equally, Pearce has been a servant for a club, its not uncommon for players to train with other/previous clubs for fitness when they're out of contract.

It could just be a gesture of goodwill

We are still short of three centre backs, that's two first choice with Sweeney and a back up, a central midfielder and a striker should Cook move on.

Still a great deal to do in the transfer market.

From the fact that Pearce was posting clips of himself on social media, it would appear from the outside that he left the club without having a move elsewhere lined up... He seemed to be trying to conjure up interest in himself.
Maybe it was an issue of his wages being high (he probably earned himself a rise or two after player of the year seasons) or the rumours about undermining Dempster and unprofessionalism were true.... and that's why he was released.

If we can get him for a good wage packet and use Covid to our advantage, then it's a no-brainer.
There aren't many better centre halves out there at our level who provide a consistent level of performance.
I'd have him back in a heartbeat, he's better than Sweeney although Sweeney is at an age where he can get better.

Adam May. Released by Pompey we were interested in him earlier.

Also, Pompey released Brett Pitman and Christian Burgess.

I'd take all 3 of them.

He's probably also waiting to see what Notts do in the playoffs.

Notts seem to do their recruitment on a "Moneyball" stats based approach with these new Danish owners apparently.

Not sure any of our players stats look good based on this season just gone, but Pearce's stats based over his whole time at Stags probably are some of the best in the division.

I'd take all 3 of them.

Burgess had already agreed to join a side in Belgium before the play-offs. However it was agreed by all parties that he would still play in the play-off matches.

I hope Pearce goes to L1, he’s good enough and I don’t fancy playing against him!

I thought Pearce lived in the Birmingham area after comments made by Benning re travel together.
If so why would he be training on Berry Hill Park, doesn't seem logical?

He does, and has set up an academy there. However, he was the RH Academy yesterday.
