We can provided he gets some service.

No we do need better. His goal returns aren’t high enough for someone who’s got no pace, is below average at link up play and isn’t a target man.

The strikers will need better service than they did last season as to your point though, hopefully we bring in some more creativity and flair in the midfield and wide areas.

I’m desperate to see who else we sign to play in the middle of midfield to start with Clarke.

MARIS

Perhaps he’ll play a bit deeper and be next to Clarke, but he seems like more of an attacking midfielder that will play more advanced, behind the two strikers and in front of two central midfielders. Can’t be doing with Tomlinson (if he stays) starting with Clarke.

Of course we need more depth in there too. Looks like we’ll be setting up with 3 central players starting games, our options at the moment are Tomlinson, Clarke, Charsley and Maris, the latter two being more advanced midfielders. Alistair Smith is not good enough going off what we saw from him last season.

Bolton have signed Baptiste. Four ex Stags (kind of) in defence now.

Will this mean his first return to Field Mill since leaving? I can't remember him returning with another team.

Strikers scoring goals hasn't been a problem for us, it's the fact that players like Mellis, McDonald, Bishop, Tomlinson never really scored more than 2 a season. If you had a look at Luton's squad when they went up from league two, they had wingers with about 15 goals and centre kids with 10 goals a piece.

Rose isn’t good enough to be our main striker

Rose and the untried Reid will be the starting two , with Bowery or Cook coming on for when Rose tires

I expect Harry Charsley and George Maris will be the main contenders for the No 10 position. I think Ollie Clarke can play in that position as well although I expect him to play deeper alongside Tomlinson. I would send Alistair Smith out on loan to Coxy at Kettering again so he can get more games under his belt.

I think we need another 2-3 midfield players especially if Tomlinson becomes unavailable or is released due to his off field issues.

Scunthorpe United have appointed Notts County assistant boss Neil Cox as their new manager to replace Paul Hurst who was sacked in January after eight months in charge. Cox is from Scunthorpe and started his playing career with the club.

Notts County have completed the signing of the Portuguese forward Ruben Rodrigues. The 24-year-old can play up-front, in midfield, or wide in a front three, and scored 12 goals for Dutch side FC Den Bosch last season.

Agreed. He is far too prone to going months without scoring. Everything about his play tells you he is a secondary striker.

To be honest we’ve had him 4 years now and haven’t progressed and yet somehow it looks as though he will be starting again next season. He suits Coughlans play and he’s an asset to the squad, but if I’m being honest I will be disappointed if he is going to be seen as the ‘main man’.

He's had literally zero service since that year he scored loads. He scored all sorts that year, from self-made goals, fox in the box to off the shoulder.

His record last season was just best yet. His overall record as League Two level is a goal ever 212 minutes. 207 minutes last season.

Think we need another striker.Don't think Bowery will score many.Maybe Jimmy will have a chance to start some games.I expect Reid will be starting most games and will be our top scorer.Another midfielder centre back and left winger required.I hope we sign Mclaughlin for the left wing position.Bolton and Salford will be top two in the betting I expect.

Just looking through our strike options, Andy Cooks minutes per goal was pretty good last season, his only one in league two. One every 160mins.

To put that into perspective, that’s better than Tyler Walker (171 mins) and Nicky Maynard (176 mins).

The flip side is, the reason he didn’t play that many minutes is because he was injured or knackered, but it shows he knows where the net is when he’s on the pitch.

Forget Cook, he wants away but is anyone now prepared to take him and pay him nor tge cap is in?

Looks like his only option is a L1 club?

Dover have made their 14 players available on a free transfer as they wont take a 20% pay cut, no idea if any of them are any good?

The salary cap must mean there is a good chance of Andy Cook staying at Field Mill which would be good news. He would be an excellent but very expensive Plan B and sometimes a very good Plan A.
