The flip side is, the reason he didn’t play that many minutes is because he was injured or knackered, but it shows he knows where the net is when he’s on the pitch.

which would be good news. He would be an excellent but very expensive Plan B and sometimes a very good Plan A.
Why would it be good news, he doesn't want to stay and if he would rather warm the bench on, reputedly, high wages then he is just a mercenary so and so, like so many other professional sportsmen.
