Postby I am Spartacus » Mon Jan 20, 2020 9:15 pm

Been announced on twitter and Notts County Mad that Mick Vinter has sadly passed away.

Rest in Peace Mick, I had nothing but fond memories of you. Thanks for giving a young lad something to cheer and shout about.

Very sad news. Played for Stags at the end of his career after leaving Notts, via Oxford and Wrexham. He was part of the Stags promotion team of 1985-86.

Very sad news. Mick was a key member of Mansfield Town's Division 4 promotion winning side in 1985-1986 under the guidance of Ian Greaves. R.I.P. Mick and thanks for the memories.

Someone told me a couple of hours ago. I got to know him as he lived quite close to me.

Bumped into him about 20 years ago in Kegworth. He was living in Ratcliffe on Trent.

Don't know if he died there but he was in Highbury Vale. A guy I know was in there about a year ago and got a neck injury from a football kicked by Mick.

RIP

Mick was a great player in a team full of quality. We had quite a few "more mature" players (e.g. Cassells & Whatmore") in the mid 80s - but although they were getting on a bit they gave 100% and didn't just seem to be at Field Mill for a big pay day. Might be my memory playing tricks but I seem to remember loads of one on ones back then, which all seemed to end up with the keeper being rounded and the ball in the net (suppose that's what happens when you have a quality midfield creating chances, and then a natural finisher at the end of them). Oh for those day....
RIP Mick

Very sad news, saw pretty much all his games for us, he was getting towards the end of his career but had real quality.

A very fine player for us in a fine promotion winning side.

My most vivid memories of him are a 25 yard curler into the top corner at home to Southend and the winner at The Racecourse in a 2-1 win at Wrexham.

Very sad news indeed.

RIP Mick.

Only 65, life can be very unfair sometimes.
RIP. Many condolences to his family. Certain players bring back
Memories of different times in your life, and Mick Vinter playing for
Us coincided with when I first started watching us play on a regular basis.
Thanks for the memories Mick.
