He interviewed well for someone most people think is defunct.

Really good honest interview from John. However he's set his target of 7-8 points minimum (or has jr set it for him?) so will he walk if he doesn't. A honourable man would fall on their sword

Is that target for the rest of the season
Seriously if he gets that in December he will have done well.

it was 8-9 points (not 7-8) that he said we need.

Ok Marty, my question still stands. Will he go if he and his team fail to achieve that, by sack or sword?

I don't think Dempster's words could be much clearer:

Dempster: “December will be key to my future. So far I have not been good enough as a manager and the players have not been good enough individually. We have a massive month ahead of us. We don’t want the gap getting any bigger. Looking at the games this month, we need 8 or 9 points, at least. The chairman has put faith in me. I intend to repay him. That needs to happen quickly in this next short period otherwise, let's be realistic, there will be changes.”

Pure speculation of course, but it sounds like he's been given December to prove that he can turn things around.

5 matches, 3 at home. Three wins, or two wins and two draws would be close to October's form, and I think we can agree that October was a decent run of results (albeit not in great style).
Given that it seems to be guaranteed that he'll be here until at least the end of the Northampton match, we need to put aside all the Dempster Out thoughts and get behind him for now. I know that it won't be easy if the next match is poor, but the ideal scenario is that we have a good run of results through December and continue building confidence and performances in the New Year. That's certainly better than all the disruption of recruiting a new manager, the resulting hurried squad changes and the unpredictable future that brings in.

Obviously, should Stags lose the next two games he can still argue that 9 points is still attainable but I wouldn't blame anyone for losing any remaining faith. But for now let's keep what faith we have and try and not undermine his last chance at proving to be a good manager.
